Five Flags Event Postponed Due to Severity of Hurricane

A major event scheduled for this Saturday, September 19 at Five Flags Speedway has been postponed due to the severity of Hurricane Sally.  Track officials announced the decision Wednesday afternoon as the storm continued to impact the Pensacola area.

Saturday’s event was scheduled to feature the season finale for both the Deep South Crane Blizzard Series and Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series.

So far, the storm only appears to have caused some damage at the historic half-mile race track. Due to the severity of the storm, some areas of the facility have not yet been evaluated but will be in the coming days.

“The wrath of Hurricane Sally has us reeling.  While we are still assessing the damage to our facility, we are equally concerned about the status of our community,â€? said Tim Bryant, Promoter of Five Flags Speedway.  “We’ll dig in and make needed repairs so we can conduct the race very soon, as well standing ready to aid in all local recovery effortsâ€?.

An announcement will be made in the coming days regarding a make-up date for the event; however, track officials are looking at Saturday, October 24 as a possible date. A Southern Super Series event was previously scheduled for that day at Gresham Motorsports Park but was recently canceled due to the pending sale of the facility.

Races for both the Blizzard Series and Pro Late Models will be the final races for both divisions prior to the 53rd Annual Snowball Derby, December 2-6 at Five Flags Speedway.

More information will be made available as track officials continue to assess the situation in the coming days.

Those who purchased a pay-per-view ticket for the event on Speed51.TV will still have access to watch both races on the rescheduled date.
