A Whopping 135 Kids, Teenagers Flood Five Flags for Annual Kids Bike Races

Tour de France, eat your heart out.

Pure, unadulterated adrenaline — produced purely from their bodies — was all the performance enhancement a group of young bicyclists needed to huff-and-puff their way around the famed half-mile oval of Five Flags Speedway on Friday night.

The track was invaded by an enthusiastic response from its fans as the annual Children’s Bicycle Races drew an eye-popping 135 kids and teenagers to the famed half-mile asphalt oval.

They were split into different age groups with the 6 through 9 age group boasting a whopping 46 riders. The little tykes, at 5-and-under, were 32 strong while both the 10 to 12 class and the 13 and older class each had more than a dozen.

The latter class included some competitors that took a little license with “older� in the division’s title with at least two riders well above their 20s.

Davin Davis chugged his way to the win for the tykes.

While the winner of the 6-9 class was a familiar name for Five Flags fans. Rocky Boyd III, whose father competed at Pensacola’s high banks for years, styled across the start-finish line in first bringing his bike to an abrupt stop.

Colby Moran bested 21 other entries in the 10-12 division and Tommy Warren Jr., equipped with a taped-on mustache and a cowboy hat, took home the 13-and-older series.

“I didn’t think I would’ve got it,� Warren said.

Each class had to complete one revolution around the oval, except for the munchkins who raced the final eight of a mile from Turn 4 to the start-finish line.

Everyone left with a trophy, Whataburger cash and, most importantly, some ice cream from Classic Home Builders, courtesy of Danny Speranzo.
