Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (Sept. 27, 2016) – Last weekend didn’t go as planned for Dale Blaney, who competed at Eldora Speedway during both nights of the 4-Crown Nationals.

The action began on Friday for the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports team, which qualified 17th quickest in its group during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series portion of the event at the half-mile oval.

Blaney placed sixth in a heat race to miss locking into the feature by only one position. He then ended third in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the main event.

“It didn’t feel like our motor was running very good and we found out we had a spark plug problem right before the A Main,” he said. “It ran pretty good (in the feature), but starting 23rd I didn’t feel like I wanted to kill my car because it was really tough to pass. I knew Saturday was way more critical. If we were starting in the top 10 spots or even starting 15th it’d be like racing like normal. I ran about five or six laps. I wanted to get a good read on the plug and make sure that was the problem.”

Blaney pulled into the pits after a few laps and he was credited with a 20th-place result.

The team determined a spark plug was the problem and returned to Eldora Speedway on Saturday for an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event.

“We qualified fifth, which is ok,” he said. “We ran third in the heat race so we didn’t get in the dash. The track was still pretty fast after they reworked it after qualifying.”

That lined Blaney up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

“I got to fourth in about four laps,” he said. “We were really good early. I got to third about halfway through and was near (Randy) Hannagan to his right rear off turn two. He moved to the bottom lane. I went to run around him and I ran straight into the wall. I went to the top to get a little run and it didn’t work out. Looking back on it sometimes it’s better to take second or third instead of wrecking the thing. It was probably one of the worst mistakes I could make. At that point I didn’t have a good angle in turn four. I should have been a little more patient, but I felt like at that point I had a chance to win the race and I was going for it.”

Blaney was battling for a podium when the crash around Lap 20 relegated him to the pits early with a 23rd-place finish. Instead of leading the All Star championship standings by 20 to 30 points Blaney now trails Chad Kemenah by 20 points with only two races remaining.

“We just have to go win,” Blaney said. “We’ll have to run the best we can.”

Blaney is slated to take this weekend off before returning to Eldora Speedway on Oct. 8 with the All Stars.
