Brandon Overton

Fifth-place finish in Winternationals finale at East Bay

On Monday afternoon, Brandon Overton was one of 70 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competitors entered at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.) for the Wrisco Winternationals. After his 14.990-second lap in qualifying earned him the All Star Performance Fast Time award, Overton picked up a heat race win, locking him on the pole for the A-Main. Charging ahead of fellow front-row starter Dennis Erb Jr. on the opening circuit, Brandon paced the field for 18 laps until Erb powered ahead. He ran in the top five until tagging the turn-two wall on lap 28, ending his night. (Heath Lawson photo)

After losing Tuesday’s program to wet weather, Brandon outdueled Ross Robinson in his heat race on Wednesday to pick up the win. Rolling off third, Overton led laps 8-12 but was caught in a tangle late in the race that resulted in an early exit.

For another $7,000-to-win A-Main on Thursday, Overton topped the 75-car field in time trials before cruising to a heat race win. Blasting ahead of Max Blair on the drop of the green flag, Brandon ran out front comfortably until a mid-race caution slowed his momentum. He faded outside the top 10 after the lap-20 caution and eventually retired with eight circuits remaining.

The following night, Brandon again set the fastest time overall in qualifying before capturing a heat victory. Starting the front row for the feature, Overton battled up front with Brandon Sheppard for the lead but ended up crossing the line in second. Ashton Winger, Devin Moran, and Tim McCreadie completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Saturday evening for the finale, Overton followed up the fastest time overall with a heat triumph. Losing four spots in the 50-lap feature, Brandon recorded a fifth-place finish. He followed Devin Moran, Tyler Erb, Mark Whitener, and Tanner English across the line.
