Eagle Valley Speedway

Redetzke is King

Brad Erickson
Jim Falls, Wisconsin (July 01, 2018) The Eagle Valley Speedway presented the Dirt Kings Late Model Tour with the Late Models, WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modified, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets all in action. There were no Modifieds on the card. Feature winners included Tommy Richards, Calvin Iverson, Danny Richards, George Richards, Dan Prissel, as Jake Redetzke won the Dirt Kings Late Model event.
Jake Redetzke started the 30-lap Independence Day Bash from the pole position and led every lap of the race. The racing action was terrific behind him as he masterfully carved traffic on his way to his first Dirt Kings Late Model Tour win in just his first start.
It was Redetzke leading at the green flag as James Giossi and AJ Diemel chased. Positions were quickly changing as a lap four caution flag flew when Jimmy Mars came to a stop in turn four. The restart saw the same leader battling with Diemel. Diemel then settled into the runner up position over Nick Anvelink who won a three-car battle for the third position with Brett Swedberg and Giossi.
By the halfway point, Redetzke was in heavy lapped traffic but drove through undaunted and he began to build a cushion over second. A lap 16 caution slowed the field as Tim Buhler slowed coming out of turn two on the backstretch. Back under green, Redetzke again began to build a cushion over second as Anvelink used the upper groove to successfully race Diemel for second.
Once again Redetzke reached lap traffic with about five laps remaining. Anvelink began to close the gap a lap later but Redetzke was still leading as they were coming to the white flag lap when Ron Berna drew a caution with a turn four spin. The restart was aborted as Tom Naeyaert eased into the turn one wall.
The green, white, checkered two lap shootout for the finish saw Redetzke with a clear view to the checkered flag as Anvelink fought Diemel for second and Swedberg and Giossi grappled for the fourth position. As Redetzke flashed by for the win, he was followed by Anvelink, Diemel, Swedberg, and the fifth finishing Giossi.
The B Feature was won by Ben Hanke as Giossi, Diemel, Redetzke, and Mark Rose won their heats.
The WISSOTA Super Stock heats were topped by Tommy Richards and Curt Myers as Richards earned the sweep after starting seventh on the field at feature time. However, it wasn’t Richards who was in control early. Although Richards and Meyers both clawed their way to second and third from the fourth row, it was polesitter Tony Falkner who attacked the upper groove of the speedway and established a large cushion over the field. Falkner chased his first ever feature win in dominating fashion until he abruptly slowed on the front stretch and drew the first caution of the event just short of the halfway point. He as not able to continue.
It was Richards inheriting the lead over Myers and Koski in third; however, the second yellow of the event flew as the fine run for Koski came to an end with a breakdown. The restart saw Myers appear to jump the start and grab the lead, but Richards fought back to the point. They ran one and two to the checkered flag as Troy Fransway, Marcus Simonson, and Rich Bishop rounded out the top five.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds saw Calvin Iverson, Michael Truscott, and Jake Smith all win heats and Mark Rose winning the B Feature. Iverson started outside of Gary Baxter on the front row at feature time and took the point early. Nick Koehler moved into second and Jake Smith into third as Koehler shadowed and hounded the leader lap after lap.
Koehler got a good run down the front stretch, dove under the leader in turn one, and was able to slide up in front of Iverson for the lead. However, a caution flag flew immediately after and Iverson was restored as the leader. This time, Iverson didn’t allow room for a pass as he drove the remaining distance, chased closely by Koehler, for his first ever feature win. Koehler finished second as Tommy Richards made a last lap pass for third over Jake Smith and Shane Halopka was scored in fifth at the line.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks saw Danny Richards once again sweep the night with both the heat and feature wins. It was Karl Knopps taking the lead on the start, but a spinning Shane Linsdseth reset the entire field before the end of lap one. The restart saw Richards take the lead over Knopps as Parker Anderson settled into third. Anderson raced hard and took over the runner up position at the halfway point.
The caution flag flew for Mike Knudtson and Dan Svee as neither continued in the event. Anderson chased Richards for the remaining laps, but Richards raced to the checkered flag in the lead. Anderson settled for second as Travis Hazelton overtook Knopps for third. Bob Seidler finished fifth as Bruce Stanley had a nice run finishing in the sixth position over Lindseth.
The WISSOTA Pure Stocks were once again dominated by George Richards as he made it a Richards Sweep of the night as brothers won all three of their respective classes. George was beaten only once last year and has yet to be dethroned this season at Eagle Valley. Richards and Dean Pronschinske won their respective heats.
It was Patrick Smith in the initial lead of the feature as Cole Hill and Tucker Quinn battled for second. Quinn took the runner up position, but Richards had moved from eighth to fourth early and drove under each car methodically to move all the way to the lead. Behind him, Quinn ran above Smith for second as Pronschinske and Lucas Kallenbach ran side by side immediately in their shadows. Quinn dropped off the pace on the white flag lap as Richards won over Smith, Kallenbach, Pronschinske, and fifth finishing Nicholas Hazelton.
The EVS Hornets saw Dan Prissel and Jason Bauer win heats as Chad Prissel won the feature. It was Chad Halterman in the early lead at feature time as the racers moved three wide at the line on lap two. Bauer moved into the lead as Dan Prissel took second when Halterman dropped from the pace and drew a caution. Halterman went to the work area and returned at the tail of the field.
At the halfway point, Chad Prissel was chasing Bauer for the lead over Jason Junker in third. Chad Prissel dove under the leader for the point when Bauer suddenly crashed hard into the backstretch wall drawing a red flag. The restart saw Chad Prissel in the lead which he never gave up on his way to the checkered flag. Behind him, Junker lead Dean Butler as Dan Prissel was making a move into the top runners. Dan Prissel was able to move to the runner up position at the finish over Derek Krumrie who moved into the top five late. Justin Anderson ended a run from 14th on the grid to finish fourth over the fifth finishing Butler.
The evening was ended with holiday fireworks. The Eagle Valley Speedway returns to action on Sunday, July 08, 2018, with WISSOTA Auto Racing featuring the Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets.
