Haas, Inc. / Budweiser Night in the Valley

Brad Erickson
Jim Falls, Wisconsin (June 10, 2018) The Eagle Valley Speedway featured the Haas, Inc. / Budweiser Night presented by Park Ridge Distributing with the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets. Feature winners included Grant Southworth, Tommy Richards, Nick Koehler, Kyle Genett, George Richards, and Dan Prissel.
Grant Southworth became the first repeat winner in the WISSOTA Modifieds at Eagle Valley Speedway in 2018 as he swept the night from the front rows of both the heat and feature. It was Jake Miller on the pole at the start of the main event but Southworth moved to the early lead and never looked back as he raced to the checkered flag without being seriously challenged. Mike Anderson raced side by side with Miller for the runner up position but got over the cushion in turn two and Miller took the spot as Hallquist followed him through. Anderson was able to get past Miller for the third position as Hallquist tried to track down the leader. Although he did close the gap significantly, he was forced to settle for second at the line. Pat Hoffman had a fine run into fourth as Josh Hessler beat Miller for fifth.
The WISSOTA Super Stock heats were topped by Wayne Dean and Tommy Richards as Richards swept the event come feature time. It was Tony Falkner to the lead from the pole for the fist two circuits until Cory Davis made a three wide move to take the point. Tommy Richards who had started eight on the field moved to second and slipped under the leader for first shortly thereafter. At the half way point, Dean was spun in turn three and Marcus Simonson was called for the foul. Upon the restart, Dean was again spun and retained his position.
Back under green, Richards had the field covered over Davis, as he too had a solid lead over third. Simonson was fast as he recovered and moved all the way to third after taking it from Lucas Koski. With 16 of 20 laps complete, Falkner spun drawing the final caution of the event. The restart saw Simonson taking over the runner up position, coming from the rear of the field. Richards wasn’t challenged though as he won over Simonson as Davis rode home third. Dylan Kromschroeder bested Troy Fransway after a nice battle for position to round out the top five.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modified heats were won by a who’s who group of Nick Koehler, Shane Halopka, and Tommy Richards as the feature was marred by multiple cautions and a roll over which drew the red flag. The first of six cautions occurred on lap one as Tyler Werner spun in turn two calling for a complete restart. Under green, it was Derek Haas side by side with Koehler for the lead. Haas was able to take the position as Koehler chased and Werner settled into third. Koehler attacked the bottom of the track in an attempt to take the point as the two raced hard. Shane Halopka took the third position and Michael Truscott moved into fourth as he chased his third feature win of the weekend.
The halfway point saw a fine battle for the lead as Halopka lurked directly in their wake. John Mueller drew the yellow with a spin but regained his position on the restart. Haas struggled on the restart as Koehler took the point and Halopka, Truscott, and Richards followed him through. A six-car crash in turn three slowed the action and the restart saw Halopka dive hard under Koehler but he wasn’t able to make the pass. Shortly thereafter, Werner was into the turn two wall resulting in a roll over and a red flag condition. He was unhurt.
A series of yellows followed thereafter setting up a three-lap race for the win. Truscott found his way into third as Jake Smith rode in fifth. It was Richards retaking third and Halopka trying a white flag lap power slide on Koehler for the lead. Koehler was too strong however, as he drove home to the victory over Halopka, Richards, Smith who took fourth late, and a recovering Derek Haas who moved to fifth on the last lap.
Topping the WISSOTA Street Stock heats were Karl Genett and Danny Richards as Kyle Genett went on to win the main event. It was Travis Hazelton leading early as five cars raced for the second position in terrific racing action. They went three-wide for the lead as Hazelton was spun in turn one. It was Hunter VanGilder called for the caution and he went to the work area to change a tire. Under green, Hazelton led as Danny Richards spun in turn two but regained his position.
The restart saw Kyle Genett move side by side with Hazelton and take the lead. VanGilder raced through traffic and eventually found himself in fourth. Richards drove below Hazelton as Mike Knudtson moved in to challenge and he himself overtook third, and then second position as they raced three-wide for the fourth behind him. It was Knudtson chasing Kyle Genett to the checkered flag as the two had an advantage over third finishing Karl Genett who won the battle over VanGilder and Richards who rounded out the top five.
George Richards had extensive damage from a heat crash and started ninth in the feature, so it wasn’t likely he would keep his 2018 undefeated streak alive. However, he did…. Adam Pratt and Zach Beaulieu were heat winners in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks but Richards stormed through the field and dominated the main event. It was Pat Smith early as two cautions kept everyone close. But Richards moved into second and was able to drive below Smith for the lead. Mike Grover had an outstanding race as he moved to the runner up position as they raced three-wide behind him for third. Two more caution flags kept the leaders close but it was Richards over an impressive Grover as Beaulieu, Nicholas Hazelton, and Smith finished in the top five.
Seth Scholl and Dean Butler scored Hornet heat wins as Dan Prissel led cover to cover in the feature. Jason Bauer drew the only yellow early as he was not able to clear the speedway after a breakdown. Dan Prissel had no issues racing from fifth to the win as Scholl moved from seventh at the start to finish second. Sixth starting Chad Prissel finished third over Jason Junker and Lucas Brackin in fifth.
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to racing action on Sunday, June 17, 2018, as Coca Cola sponsors the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds, and EVS Hornets. Oium Well Drilling and Oium Black Top will once again give away one bicycle each for both a boy and a girl just as they do every race night at the Eagle Valley Speedway!
