Alex Pokorski earns season-best A-main showing at Plymouth Dirt Track
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 12, 2022 – Nine days after missing out on an A-main transfer spot for the first time during the 2022 season, Alex Pokorski bounced back to record a season-best 14th-place A-main finish behind the wheel of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car, during Fan Appreciation Night at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 9.
With 26 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars checked in for the evening, Pokorski lined up sixth in the third 10-lap heat race based on draw, after group qualifying was scrapped for the evening due to computer issues.
On the opening lap, Pokorski swept around fifth starter Kevin Seidler and moved in to pressure Tyler Brabant for fourth along the low line on lap 4. After Brabant adjusted his line from the middle to the bottom of the racing surface, he pulled away from Pokorski, who went on to register a fifth-place finish, which earned him a direct transfer to the 360 Sprint Car A main based on the passing points formula.
The third-year 360 Sprint Car competitor rolled off 13th in the 25-lap Kristine Hartmann Pleasant View Realty PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main and moved up to 11th following a lap two caution for a five-car mishap in turn one.
On the restart, Pokorski held his own just outside the top 10 during the first portion of a long 23-lap green-flag run. After the front wing of his No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team machine became slightly dislodged Pokorski settled into the 14th spot in the running order.
During the final stages of the race, Pokorski stayed consistent running primarily along the cushion on the way to a season-best 14th-place showing in a race won by Ben Schmidt.
“I felt that the night went well and we made some good progress on some set-up changes,” Pokorski said. “I would've liked to pick up a top-10 finish, but I needed to be a little more consistent in how I ran the cushion.”
Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team is set to compete in an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader this weekend starting at The Plymouth Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 16 with the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association joining the PDTR 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Grand Nationals and B Mods.
Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with 360 Sprint Car hot laps/group qualifying slated for 5:30 p.m. and racing set to begin at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, July 17 Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will head to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. with the Akright Auto MSA 360 Sprint Cars, along with the Badger Midgets and Wisconsin Dirt Racing Legends, as part of the Salute to Bryan Gapinski event.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with opening ceremonies scheduled at 6 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to racing both nights of a doubleheader this weekend with the MSA on Saturday at Plymouth and Sunday at Angell Park,” said Pokorski, who posted a 15th-place A-main showing in his first MSA outing of the 2022 season at Angell Park Speedway on Sunday, May 21.
