Bill Balog
Rick Schmidt Memorial Champions!!
Bristol, WI – July 17, 2014. Bill Balog and the B2 Motorsports team made the short haul to Wisconsin’s “Horsepower Half-Mile” of the Dodge County Fairgrounds this past Friday night for the annual Rick Schmidt Memorial. The night started off with Bill laying down the 2nd fastest lap of the twenty-seven cars on hand lining him up with a 6th place starting position in the heat race. At the drop of the green, Bill quickly made his way into the 3rd position right on the 2nd place car’s tail. Bill made his way into 2nd one lap later and tracked down the leader and made his way into the lead a lap after that. Bill easily cruised to a heat race win transferring him into the twenty-three lap feature. Quick-timer Travis Whitney would pull the #3 pill for the feature invert setting Bill up with a 5th place starting position. When the green would fly Bill would make his way into the 4th position before the caution would fly on Lap #1. When racing resumed, Bill quickly disposed of 3rd place running Jordan Goldesberry and entered a spirited battle with Scotty Neitzel. While Bill and Scotty battled, leader Whitney began to open a huge lead. The 17B and the 2W would battle until on lap eight when Bill would make his way by and begin tracking down Whitney who had opened more than a straight-away lead on the flat half-mile. On lap fourteen, Whitney was trapped in lapped traffic which helped Bill cut the lead by half. The next lap Bill was within a few car lengths as Whitney was still in heavy lapped traffic. Bill would make his way under the #16 and into the lead on lap sixteen and masterfully weaved his way through the traffic until the checkered flag flew winning by nearly a straight-away over Whitney and Steve Meyer, picking up his 5th straight IRA feature win of 2014.
The team headed north overnight, but due to the impending severe weather the races at the Rice Lake Speedway were cancelled before 1:00 p.m.
This week the team heads to the Wisconsin/Illinois border for the 3rd Annual IRA vs. All Star Shootout at the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI on Saturday, July 19th. Bill is credited with a 3rd place and 4th place finish the last two years at this event. Bill and the B2 Motorsports team have also been in victory lane this year at the third-mile oval back on Memorial Day Weekend. Sunday night the team will head to the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for the 1st Annual Norm Nelson Memorial. This will be the first time that the IRA has been at Angell Park Speedway in twenty-nine years. Bill is also scheduled to pilot the Lein Acres #2 midget in the Badger Midget portion of the program.
The following weekend the team will make a three night swing through the northern portion of Wisconsin. First up will be the Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo, WI on Friday July 25th. Saturday night, July 26th, the team headed further north to Ashland, WI to take on the ABC Raceway. The weekend will wrap up on Sunday, July 27th at the Eagle Valley Raceway in Jim Falls, WI.
