Quenneville Returns to Devil’s Bowl Victory Lane, Tanner Wows in SCoNE Opener

WEST HAVEN, V.T.—Vince Quenneville, Jr. led every lap of Saturday’s Sunoco Sportsman Modified feature at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, outlasting Dave Camara and Walter J. Hammond on a lightning-fast racetrack.
Quenneville, who showed speed in the season-opening “Matty B Memorial,” started on the inside of the first row following a heat race win. Walt Hammond, Jr. started alongside with Camara and Walter J. Hammond in the second row. Persistent rain and clouds produced a super quick track, with Quenneville registering a 17.5 second lap during the main event, achieving a top speed of 102 mph.
Camara hustled into the 2nd position early and chased Quenneville, but was passed late by Walter J. Hammond. Camara hung on for 3rd, with Joey Scarborough 4th and James Hanson finishing 5th. Walt Hammond, Jr. suffered an engine failure in the final circuits, canceling a top-five run. Quenneville led all 30 laps, scoring his second win in five races at Devil’s Bowl, dating back to last September.
Matt Tanner put on a show in the McGee Automotive Family Sprint Cars of New England feature, starting 10th and making his way to the 2nd position. He remained there until lap 19, when leader Will Hull suffered a mechanical failure, promoting Tanner to the lead. Tanner achieved a top speed of 123 mph on a 14.5 second lap with two laps remaining, an unofficial track record for a Sprint Car at Devil’s Bowl.
Chase Moran finished 2nd, with Caleb Lamson 3rd. Chris Donnelly and Matt Hoyt rounded out the top-five.
In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman, it was Hydeville, Vt.’s Bill Duprey picking up the win. Bob Kilburn was 2nd, with Steve Miller 3rd, Mike Clark 4th and Steve Pope 5th.
The Novice Sportsman feature was won by young Logan Denis. The two-time Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint Champion has been impressive by all accounts, and his first “big-car” win comes in only his 2nd Devil’s Bowl start in the novice class. Opening day winner Matt Wade was 2nd, Nick Austin-Neil was 3rd, Jason Kerr and Bobbi Hults finished 4th and 5th, respectively.
For the Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks, Hinesburg, Vt.’s Eric Messier charged up from 15th starting spot to win the first of split features, besting Chase Allen, Griff Mahoney, Chris Charbonneau and Ron Alger, in that order. The second race was won by last year’s top rookie, Ryan Patch. Chris Sumner was 2nd, Jeremy Brownell completed 3rd, Brian Blake and Craig Kirby completed the top-five.
Gage Provencher won the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint main over John Carleton. Ray Hanson was 3rd with Kevin Smith 4th and opening day winner Quinn Quenneville was 5th.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway is back in action with all weekly division plus the 9th State Cannabis Crown Vics. Grandstand general admission is $15 for adults and free for kids aged 12 and under.
