2017 FULL THROTTLE SERIES TO BE LARGEST PAYOUT IN HISTORY OF DELAWARE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY
(By Mark Cathell) Over the winter months, the Cathell family made several changes for the upcoming racing season. Promoter Charlie Cathell says, “After 50 years in the business, it’s hard to change from the normal routine. My son and grandson have been talking to me the last two years about changes they felt might possibly help, states Cathell. He goes on to say, “When I look at our business and speak with other promoters, it’s the same conversation. We all are concerned about where the motorsports industry is headed.
Society today has changed, becoming more of an electronic driven world and children today aren’t coming into the sport like they used to. We have been lucky over the years to have second and now third generations of racing families staying in the sport. Also, there is so much more going on in the family households today, the entertainment time and dollars are stretched thin in most cases.
For the 2017 racing season, Cathell’s son Mark who handles event promotions adds, “We have totally revamped the schedule adding Thursday and Friday night venues, along with a Sunday, still keeping 12 Saturday nights on the docket. We have added two series with larger purse structures, one being the largest in our history, in hopes to draw other teams and fans into our area. With the mid-week shows, our goal is to be completed and have fans on their way out the gate by 10 pm at the latest, hopefully a bit earlier if possible, states Cathell.
The new Full Throttle Big Block & GM 602 Modifieds purses, combined with the Diamond State 50 and Delaware Dirt Track Championship this year, will reach close $175,000 in payout. Then factor in bonus and lap money plus contingencies, we are talking almost $200,000! With this said, we are excited about this year and can’t wait to deliver it to all the fans, teams and sponsors. This series is sure to rekindle the old “North vs South battles fans got to experience back in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. For the GM 602 Modifieds, we are opening up the rules (FOR THE FULL THROTTLE RACES ONLY) to allow other racers from Bridgeport, New Egypt and Grandview to come and compete.
American Racer is the exclusive tire of the 2017 Full Throttle Series. Approved compounds for ALL South Region events are as follows: Front tires: American Racer 33 compound or harder; Left-rear: American Racer 44 compound or harder; Right-rear: American Racer 48 compound or harder. Any track or series stamp is legal. No specialty tires or block-tread tires permitted, and we will honor track sealed GM 602 motors. For the Full Throttle Series (Only), it will be an open shock and fuel rule package for all racers.
DIS Racers, keep in mind if you use another fuel product. The contamination of your fuel cell bladder is possible, which may result in a disqualification during the weekly series program!
Here are the purse structures for 5 of the 40 lap Full Throttle Series races, the other two races (Diamond State & DSDTC) are 50 lap races with larger purses:
