Delaware International, Potomac and Winchester Speedways team up for a "BATTLE OF THE BAY" Late Model series
BATTLE OF THE BAY AND BERNHEISEL CHAMPIONSHIP CHASE SET FOR 2017
(February 2, 2017 Mark Cathell) DIS promoter, Charlie Cathell, Gregg Gunter, owner of Winchester Speedway and General Manager of Potomac Speedway, Denise Hollidge and will team up in 2017 for this history making partnership. For those Super Late Model fans out there, 3 of the premier late model tracks in the east will combine their drivers for the brand new “Battle of the Bay� Late Model Series. With over $100,000 in prize money to be paid out, this will surely bring out the top late model drivers in the east.
These 3 promoters bring unique speedways and racing surfaces to challenge some of the best drivers in the Mid-Atlantic region. The first 3-day weekend in the “Battle of the Bay� will kick off on Thursday night, April 27th at Delaware International Speedway. They will move across the bay the next evening, for Friday night under the lights action at Potomac Speedway. On Saturday, this circuit of race teams will wrap up the 3-day shoot-out at the historical, Winchester Speedway. The next two series races will take place on the same scheduled nights, July 27 – 29 and August 10 – 12.
Super Late teams will compete each night for $3,000 to win with $350 guaranteed start money for those who take the green flag start for the 35 lap main events. Bernheisel Race Components Championship points chase for the Super Late division. . In addition to the $100K in purse payouts, there will be a point’s series where the top five point’s finishers will be awarded. The points champion will receive a 2018 Stage I Chassis, with all mounts, chrome moly construction, Lazer X Chassis from Bernheisel Performance parts and $1,000. Second through fifth place will be as follows: 2nd $800, 3rd $700, 4th $600 and 5th $500. Bernheisel will also give a $25 gift certificate for the Hard Charger award for each race. Hoosier Mid-Atlantic will be awarding each Super Late feature winner with a new Hoosier tire.
Joining the Super Late Models will be the RUSH Racing series featuring the GM602 & GM604 Crate Models. Teams will compete in a 20 lap feature event, for $1,000 to win and $125 to take the feature green flag. Over the past few years, this class and organization has grown into a nationwide division. Drivers from a 5 state area are expected to be competing during these three action packed weekends! Sports Clips of Maryland & Delaware will be the title sponsor for the Crate Model Series. Sports Clips will pay the Top 5 finishers who run the 9 races, with 1st place receiving $750. Second through fifth will receive accordingly: 2nd $550, 3rd $400, 4th $300 and 5th $200. To finish out the evening at DIS, will be the Southern Vintage Cars and Little Lincoln / Street Stock combination feature events.
