HOWARD O'NEAL SHOWS WHY HE'S NICKNAMED "THE REAL DEAL" WITH WIN IN NAPA BIG BLOCKS!
It was the rookie Brandon Watkins that would lead the NAPA Big Block Modifieds to the green for their 25-lap feature event on Saturday night. Watkins, who looked strong in his heat, picked right back up where he left off as he quickly laid down the power on his DTM powered Big Block Chevrolet. Playing chase to the rookie would be the wily old veteran, “The Real Deal Howard O’Neal. O’Neal and Watkins would run side by side for the first 17 laps on the night. O’Neal and Watkins would put on a show for the ages as they worked the high and low grooves on the racing surface the entire race.
Last weeks feature winner Matt Hawkins, would liked to have started the night off better than he did as they broke the starter, and possibly the flywheel and bell housing on of his red and white number 38 as they went to load the car into the trailer. But into his dad’s number 83 machine went Hawkins, and from his starting position of eighth to third he would climb to try and battle for the lead with O’Neal and Watkins. With 18 laps in the record books, Hawkins would work his way past Watkins, and had his eyes set on back to back wins and O’Neal’s lead position. O’Neal wouldn’t be fazed however, as he drove a flawless race to pick up his first win in the division since 2009, capping off his perfect night after also winning his heat race.
Heats were won by HJ Bunting and Howard O’Neal
