JORDAN WATSON EARNS $3000 CAMP BARNES PAYDAY IN BIG BLOCKS

By Charlie Brown, DELMAR, DE – A 24-hour weather delay didn’t keep the 44th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit from being a huge success Wednesday night at the Delaware International Speedway. A strong turnout of 118 racers and a great crowd were on hand to watch invaders take home the lion’s share of the healthy purse.

Heat races were all important as the feature fields started heads up from the heat finishes. In the 30-lap Modified feature Bridgeport regular and former track champion, Jordan Watson, driving the Will Brown No. 1w started on the pole with last year’s winner and former track champ, Matt Jester, who was once again running a small block, starting in second.

From the drop of the green, Watson went to the top groove and set the pace. The big crowd got a great introduction to big block regular and division rookie, Carson Wright who followed Watson to the top and kept him in striking distance.

The first of three cautions came out on lap five and on the restart the outside groove continued to be the quickest as Jester took over the second spot behind Watson. By halfway, Watson was working traffic followed by Jester, Wright, Scott VanGorder and Howard O’Neal in the top five.

Two laps later, Clay Tatman rolled to a stop and on the restart Wright was able to regain the second spot. Beau Wilkins climbed into the top five and with five to go the final yellow flew. On the restart the top four remained unchanged while Wilkins and Joseph Watson battled for the fifth spot. Jordan Watson would drive to the $3000 win with Wright ending an impressive run in second. Jester finished in the third spot with VanGorder and Wilkins rounding out the top five. The feature was sponsored by Brett Deyo and the Georgetown Speedway.

Big Block Modified Finish: 1. Jordan Watson; 2. Carson Wright; 3. Matt Jester; 4. Scott VanGorder; 5. Beau Wilkins; 6. Joseph Watson; 7. H.J. Bunting; 8. Howard O’Neal; 9. Bobby Watkins; 10.
