JESTER STILL ON A HONEYMOON HIGH WITH WIN AT DIS ON SATURDAY NIGHT!

By Chad Cathell – It was an action filled night for the Kyle Dixon Memorial at Delaware International last Saturday night, and Mother Nature was threatening to show her hand once again in Sussex County. Track owner Charlie Cathell was up for the fight, and did everything he could to avoid another rainout in 2016. On May 21st, Matt Jester finally tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Megan Mullins, and was unable to attend the Diamond State 50 last week while Honeymooning in Mexico. Jester was disappointed to miss the big event at DIS, but used that as fuel to his fire to pick up a win on Saturday night.

Seventeen modifieds filed into Delaware International on Saturday night, and fans were set to see a night full of action. In the early part of the night it was Michael White and Carson Wright picking up wins in their heat races. With that win in his heat race, rookie Carson Wright was on the point to start the night, and just like the last regular show, Wright picked back up where he left off and put over 3 seconds between him and Bobby Watkins right out of the gate. Wright would continue to pace the field, but cautions throughout the event would erase his lead time and time again. Jester started all the way back in the 15th position, and in one lap went from 15th to 10th, and by lap five he had advanced up to the fourth position.

Wright continued to pace the field as Jester worked his way through. At lap 21 the caution flag flew once again as Matt Hawkins came to a stop. This would once again tighten the field up, and erase Wrights lead. Wright had been timing the starts perfect and getting a strong jump out of the hole on every restart, but this time it was apparent the tires on the young guns ride were going away. The veteran and former champion Jester timed his start perfect as well, and put the power to the ground with his small block and pulled to the side of Wright. Wright wouldn’t go down without a fight as he duked it out with everything he had left battling with Watkins for second. When the checkered flag flew it was the newlywed out front taking home the win, his first in 2016.
