JORDAN WATSON RIM RIDES TO WIN BIG BLOCK “KYLE DIXON MEMORIAL

By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – Saturday night’s “Kyle Dixon Memorial was a night of “firsts in all division. All seven feature events were won by first time winners this season and three of the features were first career wins for drivers Kenneth Peek, Jason Musser and Billy Cropper.

The 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature was the thriller of the night. Michael White would start on the pole after turning in a dominating performance earlier in winning his heat with H.J. Bunting who looked strong in winning his heat but still looking for his first win of the season starting inside row two in the Delaware Start.

White led the field into the first turn with Brad Trice tucking into second. Bunting was challenging in third while Bobby Watkins ran solidly in fourth after getting by Jordan Watson on the start. The front five would stay in tight formation with everyone hugging the bottom groove.

The first of only two yellow would fly for debris on lap nine. Trice would make a bid for the lead on the restart but it would be Bunting taking over the second spot. The top five would remain unchanged until lap 14.

Watson would be the first in the group to test the high side of the speedway and to everyone’s amazement the Will Brown owned mount hooked up and began to move toward the front. With ten to go Watson had gotten by Watkins and one lap later dropped Trice to fourth.

With seven to go, Watson pulled out all the stops shooting by on the outside of Bunting and doing likewise to the leader White on the same lap to lead lap 19. The race wasn’t over as cars battling for position further back in the pack ended with Kyle Fuller getting around to bring out the yellow followed by Robert Dutton and Trent Willey parked against the back straight wall during the yellow.

Watson would have no problem pulling away on the green and drove to his first win of the season. “I got tired of riding and had to give the fans some kind of a show, said Watson. “The last couple of weeks I haven’t made too many friends and I have to apologize for some of the things that have happened.

White turned in a personal best holding off Bunting for second with Watkins third and Trice rounding out the top five.
