ELLIOTT TAKES BACKUP TO WIN IN SUPER LATES

Herb Tunis led the first lap of the 20-lap Super Late Model main before the caution flew as Kerry King got around while battling Amanda Whaley for second. Tunis continued to set the pace on the restart with Whaley second. Ricky Elliott quickly moved from the back into third and took second from Whaley on lap five.

Donald Lingo, Jr. was running strong and followed Elliott into third. Elliott took the point on lap six and could not shake Lingo, Jr. who followed into second. Andrew Mullins tangled with a lapped car to bring out the yellow on lap eight.

Lingo, Jr. was fast in the third and fourth turns and was able to get the nose of his car to the inside of Elliott. King was on a mission from the rear taking third. The caution would fly one final time when Bob Geiger broke a drive shaft and coasted to a stop.

On the restart Elliott was able to open some daylight between himself and Lingo, Jr. and drove to his eighth win of the year by about six-tenths of a second over Lingo, Jr. King finished in the third spot with Whaley fourth and Nick Davis fifth. Heats were won by Elliott and King.

“I burnt a piston in hot laps and had to go to my backup car, said Elliott following the race.
