DELAWARE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY MAKES FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR 2014 OPENER

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – All that seems to be needed for the 2014 season to get underway is for spring to finally kick in. Fans will get a taste of what is to come on Saturday night, April 5th with a “Tune and Test Night. Last year 130 competitors turned out in multiple divisions for the event which is free to all spectators on the spectator side.  Gates open at 5 p.m. with the “Tune & Test from 6 p.m. Until 9 p.m.

The season opener on April 12th will be “Delmar Night in tribute to the town that has played host to the racing facility since 1963. Any fan with a picture I.D. with a Delmar, Del. or a Delmar, Md. address will be admitted to the spectator side for free. And as always, all children 13 and under are admitted free to the spectator side when accompanied by an adult. The night will feature the NAPA Big Block Modifieds, Super Late Models, Crate Models, AC Delco PSC Modifieds, Mod Lites and Vintage Cars. General admission is $15 on the spectator side and $25 in the pits.

April 19th will host the Kyle Dixon Memorial which will include the five weekly divisions plus the Super Trucks and the first ever event for the Red Neck Slide. This new event is in the same format of a water soaked slick surface but the cars will be racing in reverse! The month of April rounds out on April with the William J. and Juanita Cathell Memorial Night April 26th will all weekly divisions plus the Little Lincoln Vintage Cars.

The United Racing Company Sprint Cars will make two visits to the fast half mile. The first will be on May 17th and will be the Kramer Williamson Memorial. The second visit will be on August 30th and R.C. Holloway Co. Night.

Other “must see events are spread throughout the season. The nation’s best Super Late Model drivers will return for the “Fulton Bank 50 for the World of Outlaws on Thursday night May 29th along with the Little Lincoln Vintage Cars. Pepsi Night on June 7th will feature twin 20’s for the Super Late Models and the following week will be S.R. Pete & Sons Night with twin 20’s for the NAPA Big Block Modifieds.

The tradition continues with the Camp Barnes Benefit on Tuesday night June 24th. This annual favorite always produces a good field of invaders and a huge crowd that turns out to support a very worthy cause - Camp Barnes youth camp and the Delaware State Police.

Other specials include the Tony Steele Memorial for Vintage Cars on July 12th and the return of the “Blast from the Past Celebration honoring the rich history of the track on Sept. 6th.

The season will concluded with the two day Delaware State Dirt Track Championships on Friday night October 17th and Saturday night October 18th.
