DONALD LINGO, JR. BLOWS ENGINE AND WINS FEATURE IN LATE MODELS

The 20-lap Super Late Model feature was a thriller starting with Staci Warrington and Ricky Elliott capturing the two qualifying heats. A ten car inversion draw would put the pair at the back of the field and Nick Davis on the pole.

Davis held the lead for the first three laps of the feature with Donald Lingo, Jr. pressuring from second. Lingo, Jr. took the lead on lap four just as the yellow flew for Warrington. On the restart Ricky Elliott had to check up going into turn three. David Hill couldn’t get slowed in time getting into Elliott who spun to bring out the final yellow.

Lingo, Jr. remained in control with Brandon Dennis running in second and Ross Robinson, making his first start of the season in third. Lingo, Jr. had built a lead over Dennis but with six laps to go the car started to smoke. Each lap the smoke go a little worse and each lap Dennis got closer. With two laps to go the smoke was getting heavy from Lingo’s car and Dennis was searching high and low for a way around.

Amazingly Lingo, Jr. held off the challenges of Dennis for the final two laps as the engine let go as he crossed under the checkered. Dennis finished in second with Robinson third. Fourth went to Elliott and Hill rounded out the top five.

“We’re done, said Lingo, Jr. in victory lane. “We lost our good motor at Camp Barnes and this was our backup. I had to decide whether to pull in or stay out and get the win. Now we will just have to start getting ready for next year.
