Tune & Test Night Bodes Well For 2013 Season

photoBy CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – Fans got a good preview of the 2013 season Saturday night when 101 cars turned out for the Tune & Test Night. The chilly evening produced some hot lap times and a glimpse of some new faces for the coming season.

 

A full field of AC Delco Modifieds were on hand. Richie Wilson will debut in the division after running in the Mod Lite ranks at Middleford Speedway for several years and 13 year old Wesley Smack, younger brother to driver Danny Smack, will be a rookie. In the Crate Models Steven Baker will be a rookie contended as will Robby Cain who has been a sponsor on several cars and will now be trying his hand at driving. Virginia’s Cody Dawson will be moving from the Crate Models to the Super Late Models.

 

Returning to action after limited seasons or time off include the “Wild Child� Amanda Whaley in an all-new car and Ricky Elliott who is planning on running the entire season in the Super Late Models. Bobby Watkins has picked up sponsorship from J&M Roofing and looking strong in his new Big Block with Jeff Brown and Donnie  Radd also planning on running the division full time.

 

The 2013 points season begins with opening night, “Delmar Night� on April 13th. Any person with a picture ID with a Delmar, Delaware or Delmar, Maryland address will be admitted to the spectator side for free.

 

This season will include Fall Championship qualifiers in all divisions plus “King of King� nights for feature winners in the five weekly divisions. Fall Championship qualifiers will take place on May 25th for the AC Delco Modifieds, June 22nd for the Super Late Models, July 20th for the Crate Models, August 3rd for the Mod Lites and August 10th for the NAPA Big Block Modifieds. “King of King� events for will be on August 24th for the Super Late Models, September 7th for the NAPA Big Block Modifieds, September 14th for the AC Delco Modifieds, September 28th for the Crate Models and October 5th for the Mod Lites.

 

April 20th Kyle Dixon Memorial will feature the five weekly divisions plus Slide for Five and Super Trucks. The Little Lincoln Vintage cars will make their first of several appearances during the William J. & Juanita Cathell Memorial on April 27th.

 

The United Racing Company Sprint cars will make two stops this season the first of which will be on May 18th and the second on August 31st. The World of Outlaw Late Models roll into town on Thursday night May 30th and the Camp Barnes Benefit will be held on Tuesday night, July 9th. The season will conclude with the Delaware State Dirt Track Championships on Friday and Saturday nights, October 18th and 19th.
