DELAWARE INTERNATIONAL ADDS HEATS AND UPS INCENTIVES FOR 2013

TrackBy Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – The Delaware International Speedway is making final preparations for the 2013 season. Not only is the new schedule out but new incentives for the weekly racers and some changes for qualifying have been planned.

American Racer, the manufacturer of the track’s mandatory tire, has increased their contingency program in a big way. The American Racer Dirt Modified Cup for the Big Block Modifieds will continue in 2013. For a registration fee of just $50, Big Block racers are part of a huge multi-track point fund plus are eligible for being chosen for a free tire during the year. The top three in points last season received a total of 20 free tires for their finish in track points and several thousand dollars in cash and contingencies from the overall point fund.

This season American Racer is also including the Super Late Models, Crate Models and AC Delco PSC Modifieds in a special track program. Between May 30th and August 31st a different driver in the Super Late Models will receive a free tire. During the same time period the Crate Model and AC Delco PSC Modified division will alternate weeks in which to receive tires. Names will be randomly drawn and a driver can only win once.

The Super Late Model class has grown in both numbers and popularity over the past few seasons. Due to this fact the Super Late Models and the NAPA Big Block Modifieds will competing for an equalized point fund pay out in 2013.

All qualifying this season will be done through qualifying heats eliminating group timed qualifying. The Crate Models, AC Delco PSC Modifieds and Mod Lites will forego hot laps and will run six lap qualifying heats. The timed qualifying was initially instituted because of the large number of rookie drivers in these divisions, saving both time and crashes due to their lack of experience. The drivers in these divisions are now more seasoned and even the rookies are coming into these divisions with several years of experience in karting and micro sprint racing. The speedway will reserve the right to revert back to timed qualifying if time or attrition becomes an issue. Also “Rookie of the Year awards will be given in all weekly point divisions this season.

The 2013 season begins with a Tune & Test night on April 6th followed by opening night, “Delmar Night on April 13th. This season will include Fall Championship qualifiers in all divisions plus “King of King nights for feature winners in the five weekly divisions.
