JAMIE MILLS ROLLS TO 7TH WIN IN DELAWARE BIG BLOCKS

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (9/1/12) – A great crowd turned out for Fan Appreciation Night at the Delaware International Speedway. The threat of bad weather kept things moving at a quick clip and turning in a dominating performance in the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature was Jamie Mills who drove to his seventh win and increased his point lead in the division.

Scott VanGorder started on the point in the “Delaware Start after winning his heat. Jamie Mills had captured the second heat and started in second and at the drop of the green shot to the inside of VanGorder trying to take the lead coming off the fourth turn. The pair made contact with VanGorder getting around bringing out the yellow.

On the second attempt debris on the back straight kept the field from going green but the front of the field tangled involving Michael White, H.J. Bunting, Kyle Fuller, Brad Trice and Shawn Ward. The field would go single file for the restart with Mills taking the green followed by Matt Jester, Beau Wilkins, Bobby Wilkins, and Howard O’Neal.

Mills was fast in the top groove and was out front by over two seconds when Brad Trice slowed with a flat tire bringing out the yellow on lap ten. Bunting had charged back from the rear and moved into the top five on the restart. Jester’s challenge would end five laps later when his car slowed to a stop with an electrical fire.

Beau Wilkins was now giving chase on the leader Mills with Bunting climbing to third. Bunting was able to work by Beau with five to go but Wilkins regained the spot one lap later. Mills was too far out front to be challenged. It was win number seven for Mills with Beau Wilkins second and Bunting third. Fourth went to Bobby Wilkins and Howard O’Neal rounded out the top five.
