H.J. BUNTING NETS 6TH WIN IN R.C. HOLL0WAY BIG BLOCK FEATURE

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (6/30/12) – H.J. Bunting was smooth as silk as he worked his way to the front and drove to his sixth win of the season in the 25-lap R.C. Holloway sponsored Big Block Modified feature Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway.

Heat races were won by Jamie Mills and Howard O’Neal but the eight car inversion draw would start them mid-pack. Michael White, who has gotten quicker each week started on the pole and quickly opened an advantage over Beau Wilkins and Dale Hawkins.

Mills was running fifth by lap two and second four laps later. Bunting had started in the ninth spot and was following Mills up through the top five. By lap 10, Mills was challenging Wilkins for second and Bunting was riding in fourth.

White continued to set the pace as Mills moved into second just before halfway with Bunting following into third. Bunting stepped up the pace taking second from Mills and with ten to go glided under White for the lead. Mills dropped White to third on lap 16 but was unable to close on Buntng.

The one and only caution of the race came with five to go when Wilkins, who was running in fourth, rolled to a stop at the top of the second turn. Bunting was able to  once again open a lead in the final laps and cruise to the checkered. Mills finished in the second spot with Brad Trice taking third from Dale Hawkins on the final lap. O’Neal rounded out the top five.
