TRACK PAYS TRIBUTE TO HAL BROWNING DURING ELK MOONEYHAM MEMORIAL

Delmar, DE – The 5th Annual Elk Mooneyham Memorial will not only be in remembrance of the late Elk Mooneyham but it was also serve as a tribute to the driver that Mooneyham supported over many years, Hal Browning.

Browning is truly a “living legend� in racing with a career that started in the early 1960’s and continued until 2011 when he ran a full season in the super late models. Browning is one of few drives to compete in six decades. Browning wheeled and won in everything from big block modifieds to sprint cars and midgets. Just some of the tracks that he posted victories at include: Reading Fairgrounds, Nazareth, Lincoln, Hagerstown, Flemington, Georgetown and Delaware International Speedway.

During his career Browning even competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Dover International and in the asphalt modifieds at Flemington. He also was an instructor for the Monster Racing Experience at Dover.

Richard Jarvis, Jr. will be out to defend his win of a year ago in the  Elk Mooneyham Memorial, Saturday night, June 23rd at the Delaware International Speedway. The special event will offer big dollars in bonus money in all divisions.

The Super Late Models will compete in a 30 lap feature paying a $1750 bonus to the winner. That will make the winner’s share $3000. There will be an open tire rule for Late Models only, with any brand or compound 29x11 tire being allowed. All other DIS Late Model rules will apply.  A $1000 bonus will be paid to the highest regular competitor running on the DIS track tire. The driver must have competed in at least three events at the track this season. Any driver taking part in the heats, consolation or feature will receive 100 points.

Lots of extra bonus money has been posted for this event. The Big Block Modifieds will also be going 30 laps in their feature competing for a $750 winner’s bonus. That will make their 30 lap event worth $2500 to win.

General admission for the event will be just $15.00 on the spectator side and $25.00 for the pits. Children 13 and under are free when accompanied by an adult on the spectator side only.. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m.
