JAMIE MILLS CAPTURES 1ST TWIN 20 IN BIG BLOCKS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE - Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway was a great night for drivers to pick up their first wins of the season. In five of the six weekly division features, the car in victory lane was there for the first time in 2012. Former two-time champion, Jamie Mills picked up his first win of the year in the first NAPA Big Block feature and Brad Trice was able to hold off Mills in the second to get his first win of the year and the second of his career in the Big Blocks.
Dale Hawkins and Jamie Mills captured the two qualifying heats and by virtue of a “zero inversion draw started one-two in the feature. The caution was out before the first lap was complete as Beau Wilkins scraped down the back straight wall and came to a stop. On the restart, Hawkins set the pace for the first two circuits before Mills moved on top.
Matt Jester took over second on lap six and H.J. Bunting worked into third two laps later. The race would go caution free after the Wilkins incident and Mills would work traffic masterfully throughout the second half to take the checkered. Jester finished in the second spot with Bunting scoring third. Fourth went to Brad Trice and Hawkins held on to fifth.
Mills drew the number six for the inversion for the second feature. “I would like to thank Will Brown and the guys back in the pits, said Mills. “It’s been a struggle for a month or so but we’re starting to get things worked out.
