ALL SYSTEMS ARE “GO FOR SATURDAY NIGHT’S OPENER AT DELAWARE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – If last Saturday night’s Tune & Test was any indicator, the 2012 season at the Delaware International Speedway is going to be a good one. When the gates opened at 5 p.m. there were more than 130 teams lined down Rt. 13 waiting to get a shot at the new clay surface.

Saturday night’s opener will be “Delmar Night in tribute to the town that has played host to the racing facility since 1963. Any fan with a picture I.D. with a Delmar, Del. or a Delmar, Md. address will be admitted to the spectator side for free. And as always, all children 13 and under are admitted free to the spectator side when accompanied by an adult. The night will feature the NAPA Big Block Modifieds, Super Late Models, Crate Models, AC Delco PSC Modifieds, Mod Lites, Little Lincoln Cars and Vintage Stock Cars. General admission is $15 on the spectator side and $25 in the pits.

The new surface provided some quick times on Saturday. Former two-time Super Late Model Champion, Richard Jarvis, Jr. turned a lap in the 18.40’s at just under a 100 mile per hour average. The new surface performed admirably providing a smooth, tacky and dust free track throughout the entire evening.

Along with a high percentage of last year’s racers there were a number of new teams. Some of those new teams included: Aaron VanVorst, Ryan Dryden, Zach Weller, and Joe Moore in the Mod Lites; Eddie Brown, Jeff Coffey, Eric Humlhanz, Jeff Brown, Kevin Gardner, Ryan Walls and Paul McGinley in the AC Delco PSC Modifieds; Scott Tessman, Jamie Eichholz, Nick Sarino, Donnie Williams and Robbie Walls, Jr. in the Crate Models and Kerry King, Jr. and Stacy Roberts in the Super Late Models.

Gates open Saturday night at 5 p.m. with hot laps taking to the track at 7 p.m. For more information log on to www.delawareracing.com.
