BUNTING SCORES 4TH WIN IN NAPA BIG BLOCKS

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/16/11) – H.J. Bunting of Milford, Del. took the lead from Matt Jester at the halfway sign and then drove to his fourth win of the season in the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature, Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway.

 

In qualifying, rookie Kyle Fuller got his first heat race win in the heat one and Joseph Watson took the win in the second heat. The draw was for an eight car inversion which put Matt Jester, who had finished fourth in the second heat, on the pole.

 

Jester jumped out to an early advantage while Brad Trice and H.J. Bunting battled wheel to wheel for second. Watson worked into the top five from seventh by lap five as the yellow flew for George Richardson who lost and engine.

 

Bunting took the second spot on the restart and went to the bottom groove taking the lead coming off turn two for lap 13. Jester dropped to second with Trice third. Watson ran in fourth and Dana Walker held fifth.

 

A series of cautions on laps 16, 17 and 19 kept the field tightly bunched. The final six laps were all green with Bunting, in the Jake Marine/Teo, able to pull away for the win. Jester finished in second with Trice third. Fourth went to Walker and Watson rounded out the top five.

 

“Charlie had the track in super shape,� said Bunting. “Especially after having to run Tuesday night. He had it plenty wet and the car just hooked up – it was actually hooked up too good.�
