MATT JESTER STAYS ON A ROLL WITH CAMP BARNES MODIFIED WIN

MATT JESTER & RICKY ELLIOTT HAVE BIG PAYDAYS IN CAMP BARNES BENEFIT

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/12/11) – It was a hot night and the action was even hotter as a large crowd turned out to support the Delaware State Police at the 39th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit at the Delaware International Speedway. Matt Jester of Lincoln, Del. captured the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature and Ricky Elliott of Seaford, Del. powered to the win in the 25-lap Super Late Model main earning each of them over $3000 for their efforts.

Big Block Modified heats were won by Brad Trice and H.J. Bunting. The inversion draw was eight cars putting Matt Jester on the pole. With his success this season everyone knew he would be tough to beat. Last year’s winner, Rick Laubach was back to defend his win and dropped Chad James to third on lap two. James stayed in the hunt and took the spot back on lap four but gave it back to Laubach two laps later.

H.J. Bunting was on the move and pulled into the third spot on lap eight. At the halfway sign, Jester, Laubach and Bunting were followed by Brad Trice and Beau Wilkins in the top five. Bunting took second on lap 16 and had closed to the back bumper of Jester when the final yellow flew as Scott Ambruster, Jr. came to a stop.

On the restart Jester was able to open a four car length advantage as Trice advanced by Laubach and with four to go got by Bunting for second. Bunting regained the spot with two laps to go but could not reel in Jester who took the win and collect $3625.

“I’ll tell you, it is definitely better to be lucky than good, said Jester. “We kind of struggled in the heat race and I didn’t think we were all that good. We got the lucky draw and took advantage of it and that is what we have to do.

Bunting finished in the second spot with Trice third. Fourth went to Laubach and Wilikins rounded out the top five.
