15 YEAR OLD TRENT WILLEY GETS 1ST AC DELCO WIN

Trent Willey led the first lap of the 15-lap AC Delco feature but the yellow was out quickly as Norman Short slid to a stop with a broken front suspension. Willey kept the point on the restart with Matt Hawkins in second. The second and final caution flew on lap four when Dave Scarano and Garrie Bostwick tangled in three.

 

Willey pulled away again on the restart and opened about a 1.5 seconds led over Hawkins. With two laps to go Willey got into the tires on the inside of the first turn but was able to recovery and maintain his lead. The fifteen year old rookie went on to post his first career win in the Bob Willey & Sons/Bicknell. Hawkins finished in second with Westley Smith third. Fourth went to Scott Baker and Joseph Tracy rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by John Curtis who finished in sixth
