MARK WILLIAMS WINS TONY STEELE MEMORIAL VINTAGE MAIN

Mark Williams captured the 12 lap Tony Steele Vintage Car Memorial Saturday night. Kelly Putz finished first Sportsman in the Ray Tucker No. 39 that Tony drove to many wins. Tony's wife of 30 years, Lisa, their son Colby (who competed in the event) and his fiancee Stacey Gardner donated $200 to be split among the winners and also presented them with plaques in Tony's memory.

 

Williams started on the pole in the Sonny Ritter Ford with veteran Freddy Brightbill grabbing second on lap one. Todd Miller and Gary Scott tangled on lap three to bring out the yellow. On the restart, Scott got into the back straight wall and was done for the night.

 

The race went green for the rest of the distance with Williams and Brightbill putting on a great side by side battle for the lead. The two swapped the top spot several times before Brightbill moved on top for laps eight and nine.

 

The challenge was not over and Williams stayed to the bottom groove as Brightbill slid high with both Williams and Chuck Tucker getting by. Williams would take the win with Tucker second and Brightbill recovering to finish in third. Fourth went to Jim Pride, Jr. and Dave Schamp rounded out the top five. Kelly Putz was the first sportsman driving the same car the Tony Steele drove for Ray Tucker. Tony’s widow, Lisa Steele presented the modified and sportsman winners with plaques in victory lane.

Mel Joseph, Jr. drove to his second straight win in the 12-lap Little Lincoln Car feature. Jamie Wagner shot from sixth to the lead on lap one of the feature. Donald Robinson, Jr. held on to second with Mike Warshaure running in third. Joseph started in the 14^th spot (last) but was running in the top five by the end of lap one. By lap three he was third behind Wagner and Robinson.

 

By lap five Joseph had worked into second and two laps later, after a good wheel to wheel battle with Wagner, took the lead. Joseph would open a comfortable lead to drive to his second win. Wagner held off the challenge of Robinson to finish in second with Bill Brittingham fourth and Mike Warshaure fifth.
