MEL JOSEPH, JR. WINS LITTLE LINCOLN OPENER

MEL JOSEPH, JR. WINS LITTLE LINCOLN MAIN ON FULTON BANK NIGHT

 

Delmar, DE (5/12/11) – The Little Lincoln vintage cars made their first appearance as the support division to the World of Outlaw Late Model Thursday night at the Delaware International Speedway. Mel Joseph, Jr. didn’t disappoint as he took the win in the 15-lap feature in the long awaited debut of his ’63 Ford Thunderbird.

 

Steve Baker moved by Emory West at the drop of the green to lead lap one of the feature. The caution was quickly out as Brain Brasure came to a stop in the first turn with a flat tire. On the restart, Mel Joseph, Jr., who had started in sixth, took the lead and would never look back.

 

Jamie Wagner worked his ’53 Chevy into second from seventh but on lap five slowed with a flat to bring out the second and final yellow of the race. Wagner would return in time to remain on the lead lap but restarted in the rear.

 

Baker was back in second with Dylan Betts in third. At the halfway sign the trio was followed by Mark Cashdan and Bill Brittingham in the top five. Brittingham was the car on the move taking third with three to go.

 

With the race staying green, Joseph was able to cruise to the checkered by about four car lengths over Baker. Brittingham, who started ninth finished in third with Cashdan fourth. Wagner rocketed back through the field to round out the top five.
