APPERT GOES BACK-TO-BACK IN MANDAN
In the Hobby Stock feature, John Gartner Jr led early but his lead was short lived as last week’s feature winner, Derrick Appert quickly passed him. Gartner then fell into the clutches of third place Bill Hultberg. A mid-race caution erased Appert’s lead but on the restart, Hultberg slipped by Gartner to take the second position. Smoke started to escape from under the fourth place car of Kelly Hoerner with eight laps remaining. Unfortunately, the engine let go with six laps to go, handing over the fourth position to Josh Roehrich. On the restart, Gartner retook the second position but a late race caution would set up a three lap shootout for the win. Derrick Appert pulled away on the restart and went on to win back-to-back features in Mandan. It was almost too close to call for second between John Gartner Jr and Bill Hultberg but scoring officials declared Hultberg the runner-up. Josh Roehrich finished fourth while Trenton Kohler finished a career best of fifth place.
