Pennslyvania Midget Week Date Goes to Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway
Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa. has joined the 2016 USAC Pennsylvania Midget Week slate. The one-eighth-mile dirt oval will host the third night of the four-race swing, on August 16.
"We are beyond excited and proud to host an event of this magnitude," said Lanco President Jim Harrington, Jr. "We know what a jewel we have in the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway and now we can showcase our track and facility to a national touring group - the USAC National Midget Series. We can't wait until the stars of USAC take on the Clyde Martin clay."
Pennsylvania Midget Week opens on Sunday, August 14 at Susquehanna Speedway and will continue at Path Valley Speedway Park on Monday, August 15. Following the Tuesday, August 16 date at Lanco's will be the Wednesday night, August 17 finale at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown. The race at Lincoln will be part of the 2016 Jonathan Byrd's "Indy Challenge," which affords unprecedented opportunities to USAC participants and opens the avenue to compete at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The August 16 race will mark USAC's initial visit to Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway and is expected to be hotly-contested, as based on previous appearances in the Keystone State. All four events of Pennsylvania Midget Week will also be co-sanctioned by the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC), bringing together the best drivers of both sanctioning bodies.
"Everyone involved with ARDC is very excited about the development of Pennsylvania Midget Week and the confirmation of this event at Lanco," says ARDC President Wayne Lesher. "Lanco as a facility is ready for an event of this magnitude. Our competitors are all looking forward to taking on the best of USAC that week, and the addition of Lanco looks to be one of the most highly-anticipated events in central Pennsylvania this year."
"We are truly excited about the Pennsylvania Midget Week slate and the addition of Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway," says USAC Midget Director Levi Jones, who scored Pennsylvania victories on his way to 2010 and 2011 Eastern Storm Sprint Car titles. "The Eastern race fans are among the most devoted in the nation and we are pleased to be bringing our National Midget Series to their backyard."
