(Warrensburg, Missouri) The 2021 race season began Saturday evening at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) with 93 race teams signed in for competition in five divisions. Wet conditions greeted track personnel on Saturday morning, but the crew was up for the challenge and provided a competitive race surface for drivers and fans throughout the night. Drivers competed in 17 events during the opening night program.
By the end of the night some familiar faces found themselves in victory lane. Matt Johnson had a dominating performance in the A-Mods for his fifth career CMS win. Derek Henson claimed his first-ever track victory in the POWRi Super Stock division while Chase Fischer took his first CMS win during the guest class POWRi Lightning Sprint feature. Jacob Ebert notched is 48th career victory in B-Mod action while Jason Ryun collected his 28th career win during Pure Stock action.

In the main event, Johnson earned poll position and quickly established himself as the favorite by pulling away from all challengers. Behind him, Dean Wille and North Dakota driver Mike Hansen battled for runner-up honors. Just one caution slowed the race midway with Johnson continuing his lead over Wille, Hansen, Gunner Martin, and Kevin Blackburn. Over the final circuits the top five remained the same with Johnson for the win.

Derek Henson and Cody Frazon began the Super Stock main event from row one with Henson grabbing the early race lead. Frazon and Nathan Vaughn had a furious battle for second with Ted Welschmeyer and Aaron Poe also in the mix. A series of cautions led to the race being cut from the originally planned 20 laps to 15 with Henson in control with each ensuing restart. Although Vaughn pulled close several times, he was unable to overtake the leader as Henson went on to victory ahead of Vaughn and Frazon. Sixth-starting Brett Wood advanced to fourth with Poe rounding out the top five.

Jacob Ebert and Terry Schultz began the originally planned 20-lap B-Mod main from row one with Ebert quickly pulling away for the lead by lap five. Schultz and Brad Smith waged a close battle for second before a flurry of caution flags forced the race to be cut to 15 laps due to exceeding the time limit. After one final caution, the race ended with the green, white, and checkered flags flying as Ebert claimed the win over Schultz, Smith, tenth-starting Kaleb Bray, and Doug Wetzel.

Jason Ryun and Jonathan Evans began the 15-lap main event for Pure Stocks on row one with Ryun moving out to the lead. The race slowed on lap five with Ryun leading Spencer Reiff, David Doelz, and Gale Harper. Late in the race, Reiff put some pressure on the leader as he tried the outside lane to find a way to the front; however, on this night it was Ryun who came away the victor over Reiff, Doelz, Jimmie Workman from ninth on the grid, and eleventh-starting Brian Cox at the checkers.

In the guest class POWRi Lightning Sprint main, Winslow, Indiana’s Jaylon Mills and Jefferson City’s Chase Fischer led the field to green-flag laps. Fischer quickly established himself the leader over the field. This was a furious-paced race as the 15 laps went green to checkers, uninterrupted without a caution flag. Fischer and Mills distanced themselves from the rest of the field by the end of the race with Fischer picking up the victory over Mills. Paden Moreland rose to third at the finish with tenth-starting Bobby Layne moving to fourth. Brandon Smith of Mason City, Illinois, rounded out the top five.
Next up is the first special event of the season with the Malvern Bank Super Late Models (SLMR), plus NASCAR weekly racing for A-Mods, POWRi Super Stocks, B-Mods, and Pure Stocks! Special event pricing is in effect for the event with NASCAR-licensed pit passes at $35 each, non-licensed $40, regardless of age. General Admission is $20 for Adults, Active-Duty Military and Senior Citizens aged 65 to 72 $15, Kids 6 to 12 years old $6, five and under free, 75 and older and individuals permanently confined to a wheelchair are free in the grandstands. Pit gates open at 4:30, followed by grandstand admission at 5, driver pill draw cutoff at 6:15 (no passing points if driver is a late check-in), pit meeting at 6:30, hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30.
