Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 8, 2019) – Jason Sides rallied to record his fourth top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series last Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Sides had started the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown opener well, qualifying sixth quickest and winning a heat race to make the dash on Friday. A sixth-place run in the dash lined him up on the outside of the third row for the A Main, which was postponed until Saturday afternoon because of rain.

“We fell to eighth and I was trying to pass for seventh when I spun in turns three and four,” he said. “I got in there too hard and missed the bottom and it came around. We went to the rear and got back to 10th. I was slowing down and making sure I hit my marks. I was mad at myself so I charged hard through there and made sure I was where I needed to be.”

Sides overcame the incident to charge from the back of the field to garner the 10th-place finish thanks to a last-lap pass.

It marked the best result of a week that started out well last Wednesday at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D., which hosted the Star Spangled Showdown. He tied the track record, which he established in 2016.

“We had the same time as the track record three years ago,” he said. “I don’t know how that happened. We won our heat race and drew the pole for the dash. As soon as we got out there the track started going away quickly and we ended up fourth. From the drop of the green (in the feature) we sucked. We blew off the end running fourth. I slipped off the corner of turn one. I went to the rear and was trying too hard so I blew off the end of the track again. I tried the bottom and was no good there and spun again. We weren’t tight enough, but it was a weird track because it was so good so early and it went away so quick.”

Sides held on for a 17th-place result.

The week concluded on Saturday evening at Cedar Lake Speedway, where Sides qualifying 20th quickest.

“We assumed they would rework the track after the afternoon feature,” he said. “We got back there and found the rear end was broke. We were fixing it and the officials started blowing the horn for qualifying. We didn’t do much with the setup for the qualifying. We went out on a slick track and weren’t really prepared.”

Sides placed seventh in a heat race, third in the Last Chance Showdown and he overcame a part problem to rally from 21st to 16th in the main event.

“I had passed a few cars early on and about Lap 4 or so the fuel shut off blew apart,” he said. “I got soaked with fuel. We went to the work area and got it fixed. We restarted last and ended up 16th.”

Tim Kaeding will rejoin the team for the race this Friday at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich., during the Battle of Michigan. The weekend wraps up on Saturday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., during the Badger 40.
