Johnson Records Career-Best King of the West Result at Ocean Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – CALISTOGA, Calif. (June 27, 2016) – Chase Johnson registered his career-best King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series result last Friday at Ocean Speedway.
Johnson led the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas entry to a podium finish, which marked his sixth top five of the season.
“This weekend showed how great our program has been,” Johnson said. “Shawn and Cyndi have worked so hard to make sure we don’t have failures and issues. Luck has been on our side and it’s been going smoothly. I’ve had a great car underneath me and everything is starting to click.”
The night began with Johnson qualifying fifth quickest. He then finished third in a heat race to lock himself into the dash.
“We rolled out of the box with a really, really strong car,” he said. “The grip we had was something else. Shawn and the crew kept on top of the track the whole night. We made it through our heat race and drew a good pill for the dash. We finished solid in there to start in the first two rows of the main.”
Johnson’s fourth-place finish in the dash lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.
“Everyone is so good and so fast,” he said. “If you want to put yourself in contention to win you have to start near the front. That’s exactly what we did. We fell back to fifth at one point in the feature. I spent a majority of the race in fourth and ended up getting third. I really wanted a podium.”
The team carried that momentum into a King of the West race on Saturday at Calistoga Speedway, where Johnson timed in eighth quickest during qualifying before placing fifth in a heat race.
“We were a little bit off in qualifying and in the heat race we missed the setup and fell back,” he said. “That was a bummer because we had the chance to win the thing and put ourselves in the dash.”
Johnson lined up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event and he battled for a top 10 throughout the feature before posting a 10th-place result.
“We got passed by a couple of guys in the beginning,” he said. “We passed a couple back at the end and ended up with a top 10. It was a great weekend overall.”
Johnson will return to his family car this weekend when he is scheduled to race on Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., and Sunday at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif.
