Hile Charges To Victory Lane On Syracuse Haulers Night

By Hannah Doll

BREWERTON, NY (June 24, 2024) -On a beautiful Friday night at Brewerton Speedway, the 'D-Shaped Dirt Demon' set the stage for an unforgettable night of racing. For the first time this season, and the 11th time in his career, Chris Hile came from the 7th starting spot to clinch the 35-Lap Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified feature, positioning him alongside Tim McCreadie and Gary Tomkins in the track record book for career wins.

Other winners from Syracuse Haulers Night included Colby Herzog (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman), Zach Babcock (AmeriCU Mod Lites), Justin Guyle (Mirabito DIRTcar 4-Cylinders), and Mitchell Bard (Wingless 600 Microsprints).

Ronnie Davis III and James Witko Jr. led the 26-car field to the Comfort Windows Firing Point with Davis III taking the early advantage. Tom Sears Jr. would get around Witko Jr. for second quickly then used the high side on lap 5 to power by Davis III for the race lead.

Tom Sears Jr. pulled away until lap 12 when the first Milton CAT Caution of the night came out for a slow car on the backstretch. The field would regroup with Sears leading the field to green with Davis in tow.

Coming from his fourth row starting spot, Hile patiently worked the bottom of the tricky D-Shaped DIRT Demon enroute to the front. He first showed in the top-5 on lap 11, then advanced to 4th on the lap 12 restart. Hile got by Zach Payne on lap 17 to move to third, then picked off Davis on lap 21 to move to second behind Sears.

Another caution on lap 22 for a car spun in turn one would eliminate Sears' lead and put Hile next to him for the restart. On the restart, Sears jumped out to the lead with Hile on his bumper but his lead would be short lived. Working the bottom to perfection, Hile would get the bite he needed to get by Sears for the top-spot on lap 26. Once out front, Hile put it in cruise control and closed the deal for his first win of the season.

Ronnie Davis III crossed the line in second with point leader and 14th place starter Jimmy Phelps taking home the final podium spot. Payne and Tom Sears Jr rounded out the top five.

Colby Herzog picked up his first career DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman win. Coming from the 5th starting spot, Herzog battled his way through the pack, crossing the line ahead of second-place Joe Trichilo. Nicholas Root would complete the podium in third, with Kyle Devendorf and Ryan Barrett rounding out the top 5.

Point leader Justin Guyle took home the 15-lap Mirabito 4-Cylinder feature, his second of the season. Chris Bonoffski, Anthony VanEpps, Nate Powers and Walt VanEpps completed the top 5.

Zack Babcock would pick up the AmeriCU IMCA STARS Mod Lite feature win with a dramatic last lap pass of defending track champion Kyle Demo. Matt Kitts, Mike Mullen, and Joseph Garafolo round out the top 5.

After the rain halted their two previously scheduled appearances, the wingless 600 micro sprints made their Brewerton Speedway debut. Mitchell Bard would secure the win with eleventh starter Ivan Forney, crossing in second. Shannon Pitcher rounded out the top three, with Tyler Holl and Will Fisher crossing in fourth and fifth.
