Alan Fink Strikes Gold Winning Brewerton Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman Series Duel At The Demon 50
BREWERTON, NY – Fulton Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman track champion Alan Fink made a statement Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway as the season ending bigger events kicked off.
Forty-Four of the best DIRTcar Sportsman racers signed into the pits all vying for a starting sport in the ‘Duel at the Demon 50.’ The feature came down to a battle between Fink and Brewerton track champion Kevin Root that would see Fink take the lead on lap 35 and then would have to hold off Root the remaining distance for the popular DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series Central Region victory.
Chris Mackey, by virtue of the redraw, would take advantage of his front row starting spot and bolt out to the early lead while racing behind him was two and three-wide using every inch of the speedway.
Mackey would see his sizeable lead disappear on a lap 9 caution. Mackey would get a great restart and once again opened a few car length advantage.
With 15 laps complete Mackey still showed the way out front but now had Will Shields right in his tire track. Just behind the top-two Corey Barker, Kevin Root and Alan Fink were in a tight three-way battle for third through fifth.
At the halfway point Mackey now had company at the front as Kevin Root was rapidly closing in on Mackey using the topside of the Speedway as Shields, Fink and Barker kept pace with the top-two.
The yellow flag would wave on lap 27 to once again tighten the field up for the restart.
Root would be scored the new leader by inches on lap 34. Just one lap later Fink would lead in a three-wide move going under the flag stand.
Cautions on lap 40 and lap 47 would slow the pace giving the top-five one last shot at Fink for the victory.
Kevin Root would throw everything he had at Fink running the top-side of the speedway but couldn’t find a way by Fink as they went under the checkers as the top-two. Corey Barker, Chris Mackey and Will Shields rounded out the top-five.
