Auto City Speedway Results 7/20/2024

This past Saturday night was the Mardi Gras Maximum Destruction at Auto City Speedway complete with perfect weather and a full moon to top it off.

After the invocation and national anthem, it was time for all the action to start.

First up was the ever-popular Boat Race. Seven competitors took to the course and as the water flew and boats became dislodged, the one who crossed the finish line first with the bow still attached, was Chris Persails in his #X75. This was his second win in a row for the boat race as he did win it the last time out as well. Finishing second was the ‘finned’ truck of Jacob Michaels in his #83.

Next up, to help dry the track, was the Draggin’ Race. Twenty-four competitors took to the track dragging tires behind them. The battle was on from the start, but it was Maverick Morrow in his #57, 57 Chevy getting the victory followed by the #948 Crown Vic of Justin Pepitone and Paul Rigda III in his #43 truck.

It was the Push Race up now and it was the team of #422 Anthony Richardson/Paul Rigda III getting the win over the #57 team of Maverick Morrow/Shane Fogerty.

The fifty lap Enduro Race was next and there were twenty-five competitors taking on the ¼ mile. Early battles were between Paul Rigda III, Justin Pepitone, Dan Shamel #47 truck and others. About lap six, Cody Luark in his #10 took the lead and never looked back as it seemed his car was on rails for this race. Following Luark was Justin Pepitone, Shane Fogerty #87, Gerald Persails Jr. #80 and Zack Lopez #18 respectively.

Since this was Mardi Gras night, it was time for the Mardi Gras Parade as many competitors cruised down the front-stretch throwing over 10,000 beads to the crowd while Cajun music played.

Once the beads were all tossed and competitors back in the pits, it was back to the action on the track with the Chain Gang Race. Once the twelve laps were complete, it was the team of Richardson/Rigda III getting the win over Pepitone/Persails Jr.

Next was the wild and wooly I-75 Race for twenty laps. When the green flew all twenty-three drivers were bobbin’ n weavin’ around the buses and other challengers. Two drivers did have the timing right and completed the twenty laps as others fell short by a lap or more. Coming home with the win was Maverick Morrow in the #57 followed by Anthony Richardson’s #422. One lap down was Doug Hennessy in the #21, Justin Pepitone and the #926 of Josh Vanwormer.

The new fifteen lap Shark Race was next. This is where there are two ‘sharks’ (competitors) who can go anywhere on the asphalt to try and ‘tag’ the competitors racing on the ¼ mile for the win. If tagged by a shark, you are eliminated. When the sharks were done and the race complete, it was Cody Luark’s #10 surviving the sharks for the win.

It was time for the Flagpole Race and after fifteen laps of going around the make-shift flag poles (i.e. tractor tires) that were in turns two and four, it was again Maverick Morrow getting yet another victory in his #57. Second was Justin Pepitone and third was Anthony Richardson.

The infamous School Bus Figure 8 was set and after buses driving all over the course and some bump-drafting, it was Justin Pepitone in the Auto City Speedway bus getting the victory.

The last race of the night was the Figure 8 Trailer Race. From the drop of the green there were trailers flaying about and some even becoming dislodged. Anthony Richardson looked like he was on his way to victory, but on about lap four, he lost his trailer. When the checkered flew, it was Paul Rigda III in his #43 getting the win with the trailer still attached even though he lost the golf cart that was riding aboard. A fireworks display concluded the evening.
