FIVE CHAMPIONS CROWNED IN 2019 SEASON AT PLATTSBURGH AIRBORNE SPEEDWAY
PLATTSBURGH- The 2019 season at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway saw five champions crowned, including one of them picking up the second of his career.
In The Egglefield Ford 358 Modifieds, a strong end of the season led to St. Hyacinthe, PQ’s Steve Bernier winning his second straight title.
Bernier opened the season with a victory in a non-point event on opening day, and added three more wins on the season, and 11 top five finishes.
The high note came in the final two races of the season, where Bernier found himself in victory lane.
A battle between Vermont campaigner Adam Pierson and 2017 champion Connor Cleveland, was the highlight of the year in the Poirer’s True Value Sportsman. The end of the season saw Pierson come out on top.
Pierson was a master of consistency at the speedway, finishing in the top five 14 times, in 18 feature events.
He added three wins as part of that stretch, leading him to his first championship at the Big A.
The Hartson Total Opening Pro Stock division saw a battle that came down to the final point counting event, with three drivers still in contention.
In the end, Marc Lalonde won the war between those drivers, getting the second place finish he needed Labor Day weekend.
Lalonde used the strength of one victory, along with a top five finish in all seven Pro Stock feature events.
A late season charge by Tylor Terry couldn’t stop Shawn Duquette in the very competitive Ernie’s Discount Tools Super Stock Division.
Although Duquette only had two wins on the season, it was the 13 top five’s in 16 point counting events that led him to the championship.
Like Pierson in the Sportsman, he only finished out of the top ten twice in the 2019 season.
The Chris Frennier Motorsports Strictly Stocks saw a number of different point leaders in 2019, but in the end it was Altona’s Nathan Smart who used a high win total en route to the title.
Smart won ten out of 18 events on the year, including wins in the final two point races of the season.
He also finished in the top five 14 times, and had a top 10 finish in all 18 events on the year.
