Bellefeuille, Sabraski, Carlson, Jorgensen, Schelitzche Sweep Border Battle

After a long two days of competition at the Gondik Law Speedway, the Sixth Annual Border Battle came to a close on Saturday night July 2nd finishing up with the $10,000 to win WISSOTA Modified 50 lap feature.

The previous night the Modifieds spent their time racing double heat races with the order for the feature determined by passing points accrued during these qualifying races for the top sixteen drivers. Before the complete starting grid could be completed, a pair of Semi-Features were run, each qualifying four more drivers to the main event. In the first, Billy Kendall III, Ward Imrie, Darrell Nelson and Cole Spacek qualified and in the second Andy Jones, Brandon Copp, Clayton Wagamon and Shane Howell qualified.

Prior to the start of the 50 lap grind, something unique occurred, all of the 24 starters were run across the victory circle where their deck height was checked. All starters checked as legal.

The two dozen starters moved onto the racing surface led by local racers Jody Bellefeuile and Al Uotinen on the front row. At starter Ray Stuart's green flag the field roared into life. Bellefeuille bolted to the front with Uotinen, Rodney Sanders, Daniel Bargender and Shane Sabraski close behind. Bellefeuille held onto the point over Sanders, Uotinen, Don Eischens and Sabraski. There was a caution flag on lap three for the 26G of Ryan Gierke. At the restart Bellefeuille
continued to lead as Eischens got past Sanders to second. Sabraski and Uotinen followed as Ashley Anderson moved up to challenge the top five. The top four remained that way for a few laps while there was movement further back as Anderson cracked the top five and Mike Anderson was sixth from his tenth starting spot. Bellefeuille maintained the lead over Eischens as the pair began to widen the gap back to Sanders. Back behind fifth place Ashley Anderson, Mike Anderson was joined by Johnny Broking who had slipped past Uotinen. The battle between Bellefeuille and Eischens heated up as Eischens tried high and low to get past, coming close but was unable to take the lead at this point. Meanwhile Ashley Anderson was pushing Sabraski for the fourth spot. The order in the top runners showed little movement until later in the now non stopped competition. Sabraski held onto fourth as Ashley Anderson tried to take the spot while fending off Mike Anderson. Entering the top ten was Dan Ebert as, up front, Sabraski took fourth from Sanders. Ashley Anderson also got by Sanders, then got past Sabraski to third. The lead battle continued on with Eischens unable to find a way past Bellefeuille. Mike Anderson also got past Sanders to fifth as Sanders dropped back into a battle with Ebert who was now in a skirmish with Johnny Broking for seventh. Up front the order remained the same but Sanders began to gain ground back to sixth with Ebert seventh and Daniel Bargender, who had almost disappeared from the top ten rebounding to eighth. With no caution flags, the laps wound down quickly. With three circuits remaining Bellefeuille was firmly out front ahead of Eischens who was looking for one last charge for the win. Ashley Anderson was still strong in third, Sabraski was fourth and Sanders was able to regain fifth. The second five included Bargender, Ebert, Johnny Broking, Mike Anderson and Al Uotinen in tenth. This was the top ten finishing order as Jody Bellefeuille led every one of the 50 laps for the well earned $10,000 payday.

In other action, unlike the Modified feature, the Midwest Modified feature became a "Caution-fest" with five of them, mostly in the last half of the 25 lap event. Skeeter Estey was driving the 1w1 car and started the event from the pole. On his outside was Kennedy Swan who had raced her way into the feature after the 18s suffered engine failure the previous night. Jesse Polson and Cody Carlson flagged off from row two. There was a problem at the start and a second try was mandated. Estey again took the lead while Carlson slid past Swan to second. The caution flag flew after the restart after a three car crash on the front stretch involving William Moelter, Ashley Mehwerth and Evan Checkalski. With a single lap now completed, the green flag appeared. At the same time the 18s of Kennedy Swan retired to the pits. Estey maintained the lead over Carlson, Cole Boston and Jesse Polson. Carlson won the early battle with Estey and blew out to a big lead. Boston took second with Zach Benson third, Polson fourth and Andrew Inman fifth. Caution flag number two flew for the 15g of Eric Gadach in turn four. The restart came with 14 laps to go. Carlson maintained the lead at the restart as Estey got past boston for second. Another quick caution flag flew for an incident in turn two. Estey was quick on the restart as there were 12 laps remaining and regained the point with Carlson second, Inman third, Benson fourth and Cole Boston fifth.

Another caution flag flew, the fourth of the contest for a spun car in turn two. Estey kept the lead on this restart with Inman squeezing past Carlson. Joining the front group was Tyler Kintner in fourth. Another caution flag, number five quickly flew for a car around in the same place in turn two. With less than five laps to go, Estey seemed ready to pick up another Midwest Modified victory, but Carlson was not ready to give up. After getting past Inman, he dogged Estey, got a great run in three and four and pulled a successful slide job that got him the win and the $1,000 winner's share. Estey, Inman, Kintner and Benson rounded out the top five.

In WISSOTA Super Stock action, Shane Sabraski started from the pole and dominated the 25 lap feature. Dylan Nelson started in the third spot, quickly moved past outside pole sitter Jake Froemke and set off after Sabraski in what proved to be a futile chase. The 25 laps went by very quickly with nary a caution flag in sight as Sabraski flew around the track lapping the back of the field with impunity headed for the one grand first prize. Nelson was a distant second to the very fast Sabraski, Kyle Copp, Dexton Koch and Jake Froemke finished in the top five. Scott Lawrence flagged off in the 14th starting spot and made his waay to sixth at the end. Jordan Henkemeyer, Dylan Kromschroeder, Andrew Mackey and Andy Grymala finished in the top ten.

Sabraski whipped the full field of WISSOTA Super Stocks by11.2 seconds as he counted his fourth win of the season at Gondik Law Speedway.

Cory Jorgensen continues to win almost every Pure Stock event that he enters. This Saturday night Tom Treviranus managed to get past Jorgensen at the start and led much of the first part of the race until Jorgensen moved up to challenge for the lead. They ran side by side for a time before Jorgensen eased past and led to the checkered flag. The win was worth $250 to Jorgensen as he put the cap on his fourth Border Battle victory. Treviranus, Aaron Bernick, Jessie Limberios and Tyler Kaschinski finished in the top five.

It was a dozen laps for the WISSOTA Hornets and Justin Schelitzche once again showed the way as it was an easy win for the #14. Carter Matthews finished second ahead of Paul George. As George was headed for the finish line he was clipped from behind and slid wildly across the line and into the inside wall where he hit an advertising sign. He was apparently not injured in the incident. Mac Johnston and Rachel Boston rounded out the top five.
