Jace Sparks Inches Closer To MARA Title While Mark McMahill Is Still In The Chase

Jace Sparks picked the right time to score his first Ag Venture/Wheymeyer Seed A-Main win of the season in Midget Auto Racing Association action. Sparks came into the September 20, go at Coles County Speedway with a slim six point lead over Mark McMahill in the MARA point chase.

AG VENTURE/ WHEYMEYER SEED A-MAIN

Starting on the outside of polesitter Cody Beard, Sparks took the lead on the first lap as they came out of turn-two and easily won the 25 lap race feature that went green to checkers. This left McMahill and Daltyn England to battle it out for the two other podium spots. England managed to hold off McMahill, depriving McMahill of the five extra points the position would have given him.

It was an emotional Sparks in Victory Lane as he thanked his family for their support in what had been a trying season to that point. Asked if he'd be back at Coles for the last race of the MARA season, Sparks replied that he would as, "We have a championship to win."

THE HEATS

In Fusion Engineering Heat-One Tyler Roth bolted from the pole position and took the win. Mitchell Davis was second after a battle with Cody Beard. McMahill started third and finished fourth,

Logan Manson led every lap of Horizon Carpentry Heat-Two with England in second. Sparks lost a chance for more points as he finished third while quick qualifier Doherty was fourth.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Miles Doherty took the top spot in Rod End Supply Qualifying followed by RJ Corson.

Davis was the High Performance Lubricants Hard Charger as he finished fourth after starting tenth.

The Schoenfeld Headers Heat-Three and Hoosier Racing Tire B-Main were not needed this night.

Mathematically England is still in the race for the Midget Auto Racing Association point title, but the battle is really between Sparks and McMahill. The latter two would both need to skip the last event to give England a chance at the championship.

MARA closes the season on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Coles County Speedway. Sparks carries a 21 point lead over McMahill into that event.
