FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Saturday June 27, 2020) – As the Mississippi Thunder Wings and Karts Summer Series reaches the midpoint of their 2020 season, the points race for the highly competitive MTS 2020 MADDOG $ERIES presented by Advanced Media Solutions is beginning to come into focus; and with only four races remaining to crown the first ever Champion in the MADDOG $ERIES, the on-track action has only gotten tighter and much more entertaining.
Following three straight second place finishes to start off the season, Dan Bailey finally topped the bill and smiled victoriously in Victory Lane! The #85 of Robert Pretts and the #48 of Pete Monson rounded out the podium positions in second and third, respectively.
As the light flashed green to start the evening’s 12-Lap T.I. Trucking Main, Brooklyn Center, MN racer Zach Bailey rocketed off the line trying to be the first into turn number one, but first heat race winner Dan Bailey had the preferred line on entry into the first turn atop his #90 Rivercity Manufacturing Honda and was able to take the much coveted “holeshot”.
After standing his #48 RIDE Brand / Freddie’s Speed Shop Honda up on its rear tire trying to get off the line, second heat race winner Pete Monson entered the first turn in sixth; but the Rogers, MN racer put his vast experience to work and was able to battle his way up to fourth in just the first two green flag laps. Monson continued working the pack and, with a move to the inside of week two feature winner Zach Bailey, was able to secure third place in the running order by the mid-point of the race.
Through the second half of the main, Bailey continued to get heat from Pretts atop his 509 Helmets / Motogear Honda, with Monson closing the gap on the top two to present a three-rider battle for the win to the crowd. “I could hear Rob (sic), and even see him out of the corner of my eye,” explained Bailey in Victory Lane, “So I knew that I had to be elbows-up and head-down for the entire 12 laps if I was going to finally break out of the streak of second place finishes!”
“That was, perhaps one of the best racing surfaces I’ve ever been on here,” continued Bailey, “What promoter Jeff and his crew have done this season is phenomenal – a surface like that lets us push ourselves even harder to put on a great show for the fans.”
Compliments of the turning the fastest lap of the series, thus far in 2020, Bailey fended off the challenges and held on for the win, with Pretts following by only a 0.659 second separation and Monson completing the top-3.
