(Pulaski, PA)...It was another successful and action packed weekend of Pace Performance RUSH Racing Series together with Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC action as the RUSH Late Models, Sprint Cars, Sportsman Modifieds, Pro Mods, and Stock Cars all competed at various venues throughout the weekend in addition to the RUSH Karting Series. The theme of the weekend was 'new winners' as each of the above divisions had new winners including nine in the Late Models!
Friday night’s action at the Dog Hollow Speedway saw the Pace RUSH Late Models compete for an added payoff of several thousand dollars throughout the purse. Michael Duritsky, Jr. earned a hard fought win even though he led the entire 20-lap main event. In the early stage of the event, last week’s winner Joe Martin and Mid-Atlantic invaders Levin Crowl and Devin Brannon battled Duritsky for the top spot. At the checkered flag it was Duritsky, who was victorious over Brannon and Crowl, for his first win of 2021 worth $750. Martin, who pitted mid race for a flat tire, worked his way back to fourth with Joe Moyer claiming the fifth position. The RUSH Late Models will be in action this Friday as part of the Memorial Day weekend racing card.
Matt Latta claimed his first victory of the young season as he was victorious in Pace RUSH Late Model feature at Raceway Friday evening. Latta and last week’s winner Josh Ferry led the field to the green with Latta claiming the top spot. Ferry, Breyton Santee, Cory Sines and Billy Henry battled behind Latta for positions two through five. A caution on lap seven slowed the field, but Latta pulled away and went on to score the victory over Santee, Ferry, Dave Airgood and Henry. Racing action at the Conneaut, Ohio oval continues this Friday with the RUSH Late Models headlining the card.
The Hill Speedway in Monroeton, PA held their first ever Pace RUSH Late Model sanctioned event this past Friday and former Modified star Chad Homan’s name will go down in the record books as the winner of that event. The New York standout defeated Brad Smith, Steve LeBarron, Joe Lane and Jared Keeney. Racing action at the speedway continues this Friday with a seven-division racing card.
RUSH Late Model action at the Fulton Speedway saw three lead changes in the first three laps as Bret Belden, Max Hill and Chris Fleming each led a lap before Chris Fleming took over the top spot. Fleming went on to dominate the second half of the main event to score his first win of the season over Homan, Hill, Kevan Cook and Bret Belden. The RUSH Late Models will return to action this Saturday.
Genesee Speedway hosted two RUSH Late Model main events this weekend. The feature event that was postponed from May 1 saw Dave DuBois return to victory lane for the first time in nearly two years. DuBois used the high line to rocket by leader Jimmy Johnson on lap 16 and led the remainder of the 25-lap event. Johnson held on to the second spot and was followed by Paul Grigsby, Bill Holmes and Doug Ricotta. The second RUSH Late Model main event saw Jeremy Wonderling grab the lead with a slide job on Johnson. At the same time, Holmes used was able to get by Johnson and began pressuring Wonderling for the lead. On the eighth circuit, a miscue by Wonderling, would end his night. Holmes would go on to claim his second Genesee win of the season as Mazur, Johnson, Grigsby and Ricotta completed the top five.
Woodhull Raceway was also back in action this past Saturday and the RUSH Late Model main event was a heartbreaker for John Haggerty. The veteran racer weathered several cautions and led the first 18 circuits of the feature before Brian Knowles motored by. Knowles led the final two laps to pick up his second victory of the season at the southern tier New York oval. Haggerty held on to the runner-up spot with Dusty Waters, Brad Smith and Kurt Stebbins completing the top five. The RUSH Late Models will have the night off this Saturday due to the Tour race at Genesee.
Pace RUSH Late Model action at the New Stateline Speedway saw Steve Dixon and Jason Genco swap the lead several times during the first half of the main event. By lap seven, Darrell Bossard joined in the battle. Bossard and Dixon were even at the line with Dixon gaining the edge one lap later. Dixon went on to score his season's first win with Bossard, Scott Gurdak, Genco and an excellent run by David Parker to round out the top five.
Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway had two RUSH divisions in action this past week as both the Late Models and Sportsman Modifieds were on the card. Veteran Daryl Charlier led the Late Model main event for the entire 20-lap distance. Charlier weathered several cautions to score his first victory of the season at the Imperial oval. Zach Morrow claimed his best RUSH Late Model finish to date in the second spot over Tommy Schirnhofer, Jr., and brothers Zach and Jake Gunn.
Chas Wolbert and Tony Tatgenhorst led the RUSH Sportsman Modified main event to the green in their first of nine appearances of the season. Wolbert led the first six circuits while fifth place starter Justin Shea slowly worked his way through the field. By lap five, Shea had taken over the second spot and set his sights on the leader. On the next circuit Shea drove by Wolbert and cruised to his first PPMS win since 2017! Wolbert held on to the second spot with Tatgenhorst, Jordan Ehrenberg and rookie Ben Easler rounding out the top five.
This Saturday night the RUSH Late Models will return as part of the weekly racing action at PPMS; meanwhile, the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds have two Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Weekly Series events this weekend as Friday they will be in action at Raceway 7 and on Saturday at Sharon Speedway; both also part of the Wedge Motorsports "Route 7 Rumble" Series.
Sunday night RUSH Late Model action at Eriez Speedway saw veterans Chub Frank and Scott Gurdak lead the field to green. Several cautions would slow the event, but Frank maintained the top spot while Gurdak, Jason Genco, Bobby Rohrer and Mike Knight battled for spots two through five. When the checkered flag waved Frank scored his first win of the season. Genco was able to hold off Knight for the second spot. Gurdak was fourth and Breyton Santee was fifth.
Bradford Speedway got their first night of racing action in on Sunday. Jeremy Wonderling several rain delays to claim the RUSH Late Model win over J.J. Mazur, Steve Dixon, Andy Michael and Jason Dobson. It was Wonderling's second overall win of 2021 to go along with his Tour victory on May 15 at Stateline.
The Pace RUSH Sprint Cars were in action at Sharon Speedway on Saturday for the first time of the year as they joined up with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars in front of a capacity crowd. Veteran Arnie Kent and two-time Equipment Rental Options Weekly Series Champion Chad Ruhlman brought the field to the green with Kent taking the lead. A Tyler Newhart flip on lap two stopped the action. When racing action resumed Kent, Rod George, Nolan Groves and Ruhlman pulled away from the remainder of the field and battled for the top spot. Ruhlman slowed om lap 11 to bring out the event’s final caution.
Kent and George battled for the top spot when the action resumed. George wrestled the lead away from Kent on lap 13 and went on to lead the final six circuits for the $800 victory. It was the first ever RUSH Sprint Car victory for the 61-year-old George, who came out of retirement this year. Groves, Kent, 19th starting Blaze Myers and Steve Pedley rounded out the top five. The division will return to the Sharon Speedway this Saturday to compete in another event.
The Pace RUSH Pro Mods were in action at both Stateline and Bradford Speedways last weekend. Saturday night at Stateline, Greg Johnson grabbed the lead at the start and weathered several cautions to score his first victory over Adam Ashcroft, Mike Eschrich, C.J. Irons and Dennis Lunger, Jr. Former E-Mod racer, Mike Eschrich, was the victor on Sunday. Eschrich is in his first season in the RUSH Pro Mods. Irons, Brody Hill, Al Brewer and Steve Dixon completed the first five.. The division will visit the McKean County Raceway on Thursday before returning to Stateline on Saturday and Bradford on Sunday.
The Pace RUSH Stock Cars had a trio of shows over the weekend. Bob Torquato improved on his third place opening night finish at Dog Hollow to score the victory on Friday night over Mikael Beaver, who made his debut. Beaver then went on to sweep the weekend at Stateline and Eriez Speedways. The RUSH Stocks will be in action all three nights over the weekend.
The RUSH Karting Series had two shows to compete in over the weekend. Race-1 Motor Speedway in DuBois, Pa. held their second event for RUSH. Bexley Smith picked up the win in the Amateur class. Wyatt Long was victorious in the JR-2, while Jay Groves captured the Adult victory. Smith and Groves continued their winning ways on Saturday winning in their respective classes for the weekend sweep, while Ryan Chase won the JR-1 and Julian Hultin took the JR-2 win.
The Potomac Speedway was idle last weekend, and the RUSH Late Models are not on the schedule for the special Super Late Model show this Sunday. RUSH Late Model action at the Maryland oval will resume on June 4. The Delaware International Speedway was also closed last weekend, but the RUSH Late Models will return to action there this Saturday. The RUSH Late Models had the night off at Winchester Speedway last Saturday night, but will return this Saturday night to the northern Virginia clay oval.
The Pace RUSH Late Model Flynn's Tire - Born2Run Lubricants Touring Series has three exciting nights of racing on tap as to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. Friday night the Series’ will visit the Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY for the "Gary Montgomery Memorial". Saturday night the racing action moves to the Genesee Speedway for the first of three shows in 2021 at the Batavia, NY fairground track. Bradford (PA) Speedway will host the Memorial Day Weekend Finale Sunday night. All three events will pay $2,000 to-win.
