RACE OF CHAMPIONS MODIFIED SERIES SET TO REVIVE VIRTUAL “THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER” WITH SPEED51.COM AND SPEED51 eSPORTS BEGINNING THURSDAY AT CONCORD
Virtual “Thursday Night Thunder” will kick-off tomorrow night at 7:30pm on iRacing at Concord Motorsport Park with the content being shown as part of Speed51.com Speed51 eSports program.
Over 80 different entries have poured in, with several Race of Champions Modified Series competitors joining racers from different regions of the country as well as all different forms of motorsports.
“This should be exciting,” stated Joe Skotnicki, Race of Champions. “I’m looking forward to be able to watch it and see what takes place. We are all looking at things a little differently these days and being able to literally take a break from reality for a couple of hours will be worth it.”
The race format will contain time trials that will set the qualifying race lineups for nine (9) 10-lap qualifying races. The top-two (2) finishers in each qualifying race will advance to the 125-lap feature. There will be two (2) 15-lap B-Mains that transfer five (5) cars from each for a field of 28 to start the feature. Entries for the Thursday, April 2, event at Concord closed, as posted on Social Media platforms, at 5:00pm today (Wednesday, April 1).
All drivers entered in the initial race will be automatically entered in the next Series event, which will be next Thursday, April 9 at Oxford Plains Speedway. The Series will then move to USA International Speedway on Thursday, April 23. A determination at that point based on the “Stay-at-Home” act will be made as to continue the Series or not.
The Series will conclude with a “one-off” event taking place at Irwindale Speedway and open to the top-30 in the point standings as of the final event, with select driver’s from this series and others earning an invitation to the “Virtual RoC Invitational Showdown”.
Drivers are eligible to enter future events by sending an e-mail to; info@rocmodifiedseries.com. The entry deadline for all events will be the Wednesday before the Thursday events at 5:00pm EST.
The Race of Champions partnered with Sim Racers for Mental Health for a series of events during the late Fall 2019, into the Winter ending in January 2020. Tommy Kreymborg, a young racer from North Sea, N.Y., was crowned the intial Race of Champions Series eSports champion.
