RACE OF CHAMPIONS LATE MODEL READY TO RETURN TO THE HIGH BANKS OF THE TRACK @ HILLSIDE BUFFALO IN HOLLAND FOR A 50-LAP RACE
The Race of Champions Late Model are scheduled to finally return to the high banks of The Track @ Hillside Buffalo this coming Saturday night for the Tribute to Jerry Gradl 50. Originally the Late Models were scheduled to debut at the Speedway on Saturday, June 23, but weather forced that race to be rescheduled.
The return of Late Models to the high banks has been highly anticipated. The division has a historic tradition at Holland dating back to the track’s beginning and spanning throughout its history including the celebrated career of the legendary Art Clark of West Seneca, N.Y., who is now inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall-of-Fame.
Eldon King, III of Delevan, N.Y., has won the last two Late Model series events, both at Lancaster (N.Y.) National Speedway, but has recorded four Late Model championships at Holland.
“We are really looking forward to it,” stated King. “We tested a few weeks ago and we were ready to go but the weather got it. We want to race and we are looking forward to Saturday. It’s a big deal for the Late Model division. Holland has always been a Late Model track and now we have the opportunity to bring it back there. We are all excited and I think it will be a great night of racing.”
In addition to the Late Models returning to Holland, the NYPA TQ Midgets will run the Jerry Gradl 50 for their division.
The grandstands will open at 3:00 pm with Qualifying beginning at 4:00 pm for the Saturday, August 11, 2018 event.
