Midwest Legends Dirt Series
Pearson Adds to Victory Total and Ropp Returns to Victory Lane!
This past weekend saw two very dominating performances from two very talented legends racers. Saturday night the series rolled into Beaver Dam Raceway for Fan Appreciation Night. This race was also another “Racing for a Cause” event which raises awareness and collects donations for the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) foundation.
In the feature Justin Pearson started in the 6th position and very quickly took the lead and never once looked back or faced a challenge. By the time the checkered flag flew on the caution free event, Pearson had lapped everyone up to 12th place. Second place finishing Cody Apfelbeck crossed the line 3.5 seconds after Pearson did. Third place finisher Ryan Mech crossed the line over seven seconds behind the winner. There was no doubt that Pearson and crew had the track figured out. Chris Hoedel came home with an impressive fourth place finish for his first race back since a rough crash early in May. Kim Clover finished out the top five. Heat races were won by Ed Farrington (first career win), Mike Mueller, and Cody Apfelbeck. The hard charger of the night was Bille Lehmann who went from 17th to 6th.
The next stop for the series was Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for the Pepsi Midget Nationals. 17 cars signed in for the night and put on a great show for the crowd. The feature saw two and three-wide racing throughout the entire green to checkers race. Warren Ropp was able to get the lead away from early race leader Ryan Kuehn and hold onto it until the very end. Cody Apfelbeck seemed to be closing in on Ropp after working through traffic, but simply ran out of laps to catch the veteran. Mike Mueller held off the hard charging Justin Pearson to come home third. Ryan Mech was able to take home the fourth spot with Justin Pearson finishing out the top five.
On-tap is another three race weekend for the series. The first stop will be at Lafayette County Speedway on Friday night (7/13). This race is part of the county fair event and is also a national qualifier for the legends. Saturday will be the usual stop at Beaver Dam Raceway. Sunday will see some Wisconsin drivers make the trip down to Benton County Speedway in Iowa.
Throughout this previous weekend the drivers spent time walking through the stands to collect money for the C.O.P.S. foundation. In just the previous two days the fans of Beaver Dam Raceway and Angell Park Speedway have donated over $1,000 to a great cause! We thank the drivers and the fans for their time and generosity.
