Hughes picks up 3rd Sooner victory at Longdale Speedway
By John Rittenoure (Maxx Ramsey photo) - LONGDALE, Okla. (September 20, 2025) - A threat of rain hung over Longdale Speedway Saturday night, but that did not stop Kip Hughes from racing to his third Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation Sooner Late Model Series victory.
Dalon Helm started on the pole next to Hughes for the start of the 20-lap main and roared out to an early lead. But Hughes was right behind and powered into the lead on lap 3. Jon Herring, Jr., who won at Longdale in July, followed into second. With four laps remaining Herring coasted to a stop atop turn one with mechanical problems. Helm found himself back in second and chased Hughes to the finish. Damian Patocka finished in third ahead of Eric Brill in fourth.
Dalon Helm won the Maxx Ramsey Redline award for his fast time of 17.038.
Two nights of racing are on tap next weekend when the series returns to Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee.

Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas.
