Pair of Runner-up Finishes in Season Opener

With promoters and track officials mandating several precautionary measures to host the event during the ongoing Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, Austin Theiss traveled to Monarch Motor Speedway (Wichita Falls, Tex.) on Friday evening to kick off the 2020 season with the event co-sanctioned by the Southern Texas Late Model Series and the Sooner Late Model Series. In a field of 29 cars, Theiss secured his spot into the opening night feature with an 8-lap heat race victory. Dropping one spot in the 30-lap feature, Austin posted a runner-up finish behind Bo Day with Cody Leonard, Damian Patocka, and Robbie Starnes rounding out the Top-5.

The following night at Abilene speedway (Abilene, Tex.), Austin streaked to a 10-lap heat race victory, which positioned him third on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $1,000 on the line, Theiss improved one spot to place second behind Bo Day with Kip Hughes, Hayden Ross, and Robbie Starnes trailing them to the checkers.
