Iron-Man Late Model Series
Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series Kicks Off ’23 at Talladega Short Track for the 32nd Annual Ice Bowl January 5-January 7
SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (December 28, 2022)- The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series is set to begin the 2023 race season at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL for the 32nd Annual Ice Bowl presented by Racecar Engineering on Thursday January 5, Friday January 6, and Saturday January 7, 2023. The 32nd Annual Ice Bowl main event on Saturday January 7 will be 50 laps in length and pay $7,500 to win and $600 to start.
Of note, this event is a non-points event for the 2023 Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series tour, but will be a points event for the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Winter Series, which will consist of the 32nd Annual Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track January 5-7, the 15th Annual Cabin Fever 40 at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA on Saturday January 28 ($5,000 to win), and the 5th Annual Bama Brawl at Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL on Saturday February 25 ($5,000 to win).
The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series competitors will be in action on Friday January 6 with Denby’s J&J Construction Hot Laps, E-Z-GO Time Trials, and Sunoco Race Fuels Heat Races. On Saturday January 7, the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series racers will compete in Impact Race Gear B-Mains and the 50-lap, $7,500 to win/$600 to win 32nd Annual Ice Bowl presented by Racecar Engineering main event. Other divisions in action for the 32nd Annual Ice Bowl presented by Racecar Engineering weekend at Talladega Short Track (all divisions will time trial and heat race on Friday January 6 and contest B-Mains and Feature events on Saturday January 7) will be the Crate Racin’ USA Late Models 604 Late Models ($3,000 to win/$300 to start), TST Sportsman/Limited Late Models ($2,500 to win/$250 to start), Crate Racin’ USA Street Stocks ($2,500 to win/$200 to start), Crate Racin’ USA Late Model Sportsman ($2,000 to win/$200 to start), Crate Racin’ USA Modified Sportsman/Tri-State Modified Series ($2,000 to win/$200 to start), Factory Stock/Pure Stock ($1,000 to win/$100 to start), Hot Shots/FWD (Jonathan “Mr. NASCAR” Merritt Memorial-$1,005 to win/$75 to start), and Mini-Stocks (Southern Mod4 Mini Association-$3,000 to win/$300 to start).
On-track activities for the 32nd Annual Ice Bowl presented by Racecar Engineering will begin on Thursday January 5 and will feature an Open Practice for all divisions that will take place from Noon until 6:00 p.m. Pit admission on Thursday will be $25 and a three-day pit pass for $90 can be purchased Thursday only, while the general admission is free for Open Practice. On Friday January 6, hot laps, practice, qualifying, and heat races for all divisions will take place, with all gates opening at 8:00 a.m., with the drivers meeting at 9:30 a.m., and hot laps set to begin at 10:00 a.m. Ticket prices on Friday January 6 in the general admission area will be $20 (a two-day general admission pass can be purchased for $40) and a pit pass will be $30 (a two-day pit pass can be purchased for $70). The weekend concludes on Saturday January 7 with B-Mains and 32nd Annual Ice Bowl presented by Racecar Engineering Feature events for all divisions with all gates opening at 8:00 a.m., with the drivers meeting at 9:30 a.m., and B-Mains beginning at 10:00 a.m. Ticket prices on Saturday January 7 in the general admission area will be $25, while a pit pass will be $40. All times listed are Central Time. In case of inclement weather, Sunday January 8 has been reserved as a rain date if needed. All ATV’s/SxS/Pit Bikes will be charged a $30 weekend pass.
The Super Late Model portion of the 32nd Annual Ice Bowl presented by Racecar Engineering will be sanctioned by the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series and will be contested under their series rules and regulations. The tire rule for Super Late Models for the 32nd Annual Ice Bowl will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and Hoosier 1600 anywhere on the car, with a Hoosier 70 right rear option. The series will also be taking tire samples throughout the weekend and there is NO droop rule. The entry fee for the event is $100.
