Ryan King Claims 2020 Schaeffer’s Iron-Man Series Championship
The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com and Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series recently concluded their 2020 racing seasons recently and Ryan King of Seymour, TN would claim the Iron-Man Late Model Series championship and Blake Brown of Corbin, KY would garner championship honors with the Iron-Man Modified Series.
Ryan King would capture the 2020 Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com championship after a late-season points battle with Michael Chilton that would see the 29 year-old racer pick up one victory (Lake Cumberland September 19) and score a total twelve top-ten finishes, with seven of those being top-five finishes. King would score his title win aboard the Warrior Race Cars house car powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine and sporting sponsorship from Warrior 1G Performance, Brian King Roofing, Turkey Creek Snacks, Roberts Bee Company, Mighty Muffler, and PTSD Awareness Racing. Along with King’s one tour victory, his top five finishes would include a pair of runner-up finishes, a pair of third place finishes, one fourth place effort, and one fifth place finish.
Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would finish second in tour points, finishing in the top-ten on ten occasions, with five of those being top-five finishes and being one of only two drivers to win multiple races with tour in 2020 (Lake Cumberland September 12 and Ponderosa September 18). Joey Standridge of Tellico Plains, TN, who was the 2018 series titlist, would compete in all series events, claiming two top-ten finishes (best finish was ninth at Tazewell on July 3). Dakotah Knuckles of Ewing, VA would finish in the fourth position in final points, competing in eleven tour events and scoring four top-ten finishes, with two of those being top-five finishes (best finish was third at Tazewell on July 3). Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, GA would complete the top five in final points, with five top-ten finishes and three top-five finishes, including a win at Tazewell Speedway on September 6. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Cameron Marlar of Winfield, TN (one win at Ponderosa Speedway October 2), Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN (the only other driver to be a repeat winner on tour with two wins-one at 411 Motor Speedway on May 25 and one at Volunteer Speedway on July 4), David Payne of Murphy, NC (one win at Tazewell Speedway May 30), Pearson Lee Williams of Dublin, GA, and Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, KY. In fourteen points events, a total of 155 different drivers raced with the series and the average car count per event was 26.2, with a series record car count of 52 at the series finale at 411 Motor Speedway on November 28. In the fourteen point events, twelve different drivers would visit victory lane in feature competition.
